You know, if he wasn’t such a bad guy, Eldor would actually make a potentially great Teacher. He is aware of his pupils skills, even if she herself sometimes can’t see them, encourages her to push for success, and congratulates her on breakthroughs like that.
I think that’s part of what makes him such a great character. Sure, he’s the villain. The mastermind of most of the problems the protagonists have faced. But he’s got so many facets to his character that he can’t just be neatly dropped into the category of “He’s the bad guy, they need to kill him, done.” There’s still a chance he could be redeemed, and I could easily see him being, say, a senior instructor at the Academy (grad class level, probably), or something else similarly a bit more beneficial to the world at large. I mean honestly, he’s evening admitting that while he’s got massively more experience than Lilith, she’s surpassed him in technical theory. He knows enough to help and discuss the theory, and certainly his experience with applying magical theory is immense, but at this point he’s been relegated to “the most capable person to help her learn” rather than being the instructor that directly expounds the material. His honesty on that is impressive.
Definitely one of the more memorable villains out there.

Now if only he wasn’t such an ass.
