Not having seen the original run, I have absolutely no idea whether he’s telling the truth, or just a deluded Bhall worshipper.

Having read the entire series, and without spoiling, my opinion is that Gaia an Bhaal are just two “equal” deities fighting each other for the whole dominance over “the world”. None is really better than the other.
I notice now that the name “Bhaal” come from ancient mythology and was a powerful deity in many ancient cultures. And a “positive” one. Later, with christianism, the name “Bhaal” became a symbol of the demon/devil, etc, and globally an “bad” deity. Which is similar to what happened to this universe.
