Abe Lincoln once said, “if you want me to speak for an hour, I can do that immediately, if you want it brief, give me a couple hours.”
Or something like that. I haven’t even memorized all of that Gettysburg talk.
No, she didn’t lie, she never said she was making it up on the spot (at least, I don’t think she did?), she just heavily implied it by ripping up a sheaf of papers. It’s a performance, one intended to convey spontaneity and confidence and honesty. Which is kind of ironic, considering she’s kind of tricking people. Although that being said, she *is* making it up on the spot, she just has a detailed outline of what she wants to say. She’s making up the wording, just not the overall content.
Since we are on the theme of quotations, another relevant one: : “The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made” – Groucho Marx.
What surprises me is that she had time to put it in paper, given the tight deadline. It would have been easy for Viviana to prepare it inside her head. But then Ilias wouldn’t have found the “proof”.
@ Zitchas:
Which is exactly how presentations should be prepared. Have some cliff notes on key points and structure but build the wording on the spot. Otherwise you are in risk of doing a plain and boring recitation of a pre-prepared text – especially if you read from a script (that’s a no-no). Additional disadvantage of reading the whole text is that you cannot at the same time keep the eye contact with the audience and the whole body language gets very limited.
So that’s what Ilias looked concerned about after the speech.
I totally understand the need to make sure – and it would have been annoying to Vivi, who would probably have escaped the question. But still, Ilias, looking into the Personal Stuff of your SO isn’t a great way to build trust and generally not OK… Unless maybe to protect them, and even then !

The absolute worst way to give a Powerpoint presentation! “Let’s show a slide and then I will read the slide to you, and give very little additional information.” Guaranteed to put your audience to sleep, and not the way that I do things!

*GASP*
I am SHOCKED Viviana!
Shocked, I tell you!
(But it’s cute how red she gets.)
