[SPOILER] Click here to see my commentary for this page!
My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est:I initially planned to create a short video with a cool blending effect between the two cover variants. But I had a lot of technical difficulties since I’ve only edited a single video before in my life and didn’t have the proper tools installed on my PC. So I finally decided to go for a simple CSS blending effect on the website that gets triggered when the mouse cursor is moved over the cover image.

I think the hover is much better than video. Of course, it’s going to cause some issues when printing.
This works (and worked) well on mobile, as well. Just tapping on the comic lets you see the activation, and tapping elsewhere on the page, like the comments section, reverts it back. This was nifty, and it’s got me thinking of how fun an “interactive” comic would be, if some content on certain pages only showed up when you tapped on the comic pages. I know some comics already do “secret” words that pop up, but I would actually like to see the pages themselves light up, or invisible characters pop in, that sort of stuff, and I really do have to wonder if someone hasn’t already done anything like that, similar to this door cover.
It’s a very nice effect, especially because you can make it go halfway and then revert back 😀
@ Chris:
Unsounded has used that effect multiple times with good results, specially on the latter half of the story. Characters moving, things happening in the background, and even things moving outside the edges of the pages.
This effect reminded me of the “Submachine” games series.
Very nice.
Huh. I see no effect on the website front page. Only when I come to the page for the day itself (…/gaia/2025/06/12/the-door-cover)
@ Poison Leaf:
I will look at that, thanks for letting me know.
