I’ve always wondered if in this scene, Ilias does at the hands of the shadow monsters, or whether it’s at Viviana’s fault. We’ve established that the rainbow knife is dangerous and creates uncontrollable backlash, so it’s fully possible that it’s what gets him during the fight.
Illias, main character, the only one brave enough to but up with Viviana in a relationship. And all he see of his death scene is a boot and a puddle. That’s so understated it’s comedy. So yeah, maybe Vivianna got him. All it would take is one “shadowy form” illusion spell while her back is turned. If they’re made of smoke, can they physically cover anyone? Wait, better question, did he die thirsty?

I think it was Viviana’s doing. This is beyond dark. I know the whole story already and I love this entire sequence.
