It’s terrible, but it’s also the only way forward. Very much like that moment with Dr Strange searching the optimal route to win. Terrible things need to happen on the only path that’ll see most of them through to long lives.
Oh, the reflection of one of them in the sword itself is a fantastic, artistic touch!
We never did find out who those are. We have only Eldor’s word that there were friends with a saboteur, or that there was a saboteur to begin with. More likely that someone made an error. There are too many business degree chumps who think that sometimes the only way to make a profit is to cut down the staff that got you that far.
