I’m interested in Gaia reaction to all this and in Lili’s thoughts about the remaining creator. |
Looking back at some crucial pages, I failed to make it clear enough that Gaia sacrificed herself for the creation of the Tear of Gaia. That’s probably better solved by adjusting some existing dialog lines during the remastering of the story. |
philomory |
I’m a bit interested in why Eldor used consistently male pronouns for Bhaal, but Bhaal’s “true form” was feminine. Did Eldor not know? Is gender just meaningless for gods? |
I guess Bhaal chose to mainly appear in male or neutral form, at least to Eldor. I don’t think Bhaal manifested herself in such a concrete form to Eldor at all. I will probably explore this topic in a panel or two in the epilogue. |
philomory |
I’m also sort of interested in what happens to al, the rest of the Elves. They all seemed to be going along with Eldor, though who knows how much most of them knew about the details of his plans. |
That’s indeed worth a mention. Since Eldor had many followers, they probably feel much more reserved about the new natural order. |
zwutz |
Lilith assumed the powers of Gaia by absorbing the Tear of Gaia. Does she have to keep the power or was it a one-off burst of energy? |
This will be shown in the epilogue. |
ToBeFree |
What happened to Malva? |
Malva will be featured prominently in the epilogue. Ryn will also appear, of course. |
ToBeFree |
Why did she have to stay away? |
Because Lilith felt that her presence would have resulted in the failure of their mission. |
Sambo |
Personally, I’m curious as to what happened to people like Delvor Garrot who got tossed in purple holes. |
I don’t think I will discuss this in the epilogue. It’s best to consider them dead at this point. |
ToBeFree |
Is there a coloring error at the-door-018, in the non-panel, above the belt? |
I don’t understand what you mean. I don’t see any coloration error in that page. |
ToBeFree |
What would truly have happened if Eldor had fulfilled his plan? |
I believe that Lilith’s warning was correct and the explosion of the time suspension shield around the Source would have destroyed the planet. |
ToBeFree |
Are Eldor’s accusations about history rewriting and mind manipulation technically correct? |
I want to leave this open for interpretation. |
ToBeFree |
One million thaler? |
Cassius will be featured briefly in the epilogue. |
ToBeFree |
If I may throw the possibly obvious suggestion/prediction into the room, monster-038 will happen and Malva or Ryn will catch the flower bouquet. |
Neither will catch a flower bouquet because weddings on Gaia don’t involve throwing a flower bouquet. |
Nobody |
What was this vision of San that Viviana had? (About the tower in the sky.) |
The vision at the end of The Tower in the Sky replicates the last minutes of San’s life in Viviana’s Shadow Realm at the end of The Door. |
Nobody |
What was the career plan that Lilith had before the red hall massacre? |
This will be mentioned in Gaia: sic mundus creatus est. |
Nobody |
Why is Vivi the last queen of Gaia? I mean, Gaia still exists, even after its tear has been used… |
The chapter title is based on the dialog in panel 3 of The Last Queen of Gaia #14. There’s no deeper meaning beyond that. |
Nobody |
What was all this cult about this third god Trias? (Just some smoke screen made up by Eldor?) |
The hooded guy was simply called “Shady prophet” in the comic’s script. That should answer all questions about the Trias sect. |
Nobody |
Will the poor guy who stranded in this nowhere Land be rescued? |
Kilian will be featured briefly in the epilogue. |
Nobody |
Who built the crystal fortress (Isaac?) and why? |
Yes. This is briefly explained by Eldor in The Way Back Home #177 and #178. |
Marteri |
How and when did Lilith learn about Bhaal’s true nature? |
When her soul merged with the Tear of Gaia in Eldor’s tower. |
Marteri |
In the section “Setting” you also wrote the possibility that “Bhaal might be able to escape his prison”. Is Bhaal not gendered in a traditional way, since he/she appeared as a women in his/her “true form”? |
The Settings page describes the world of Gaia from the point of view of a commoner. It’s not meant to depict the truth™. |
Marteri |
And was this the prisoned Bhaal that we saw, still in the prison? |
Yes, Bhaal was definitely not able to roam freely on Gaia. |
Marteri |
What brought about the change in the Dalelands after the “explosion”? I have even been speculating about if they returned in time to before the dark age and before Bhaal was imprisoned? So I am rather curious! |
Lilith restored the Dalelands. She had some time until her friends woke up again. |
Marteri |
And please, what did Lilith do when she “rammed a dagger into the arrow of time” in Oakdale? Should we have been able to figure that out ourselves? |
At that point, she didn’t know what exactly she had done. But she’s referring to the moment where she made Eldor write 12 instead of 13, which ultimately allowed her to cast time-related spells in Eldor’s tower. |
Tim |
Eldor seems to have needed both Lilith and San’s souls for the soul sphere. It looks like he may have done something with Viviana’s soul as well, when he performed surgery on her, but I was never quite sure. She wasn’t a magical prodigy, but was she actually a “touched one” along with the other two? |
Viviana isn’t a “touched one”. But she was conceived at exactly the same moment which gave her a strong spiritual connection to both of them, especially to Lilith. Note how their souls dance around each other in Breaking All Barriers #156.
Eldor performed surgery on Viviana to make it possible for her to leave the forest maze. |
Tim |
Eldor attacked San’s friend Elea to motivate her to do…something. Pursue revenge against the cult of Asmodeus at Osterrath? It seems that Eldor had always planned for Lilith to break the time suspension shield for him; what, then, was the purpose of San’s “training?” |
San’s magical energy was needed to charge the soul sphere. |
Tim |
Finally, will there be an explanation of the old witch and Lilith’s three wishes? |
The dream is a direct reference to one of my favorite scenes in the classic role-playing game Planescape: Torment. The dream conveys that something is wrong with Lilith and that the revelation will be unpleasant. |
hammer 256 |
What happened when she held the soulsphere that led her to change her actions so much, what was her plan before that? |
Once reunited with her soul, Lilith got a much clearer picture of the future and what she needs to do to succeed. |
hammer 256 |
What were those pages she grabbed after trapping everyone in the source room? |
The pages contain the Niko’s Strict Order spell. |
Mr.Pointer |
I would like to know the reason(s) of Lili’s laugh in fake Oakdale when she realized they were all within a delusional stage. |
I think the reason for her reaction is clear from context. |
Mr.Pointer |
And a few points: who really put the newspaper in Ryn’s hands (through delusional Amos) |
I want to leave this open for interpretation. |
Mr.Pointer |
who really was the old woman in Lili’s dream and who, or what, triggered that dream. |
It’s a generic old hag, not a specific character. See my answer to Tim’s question above. |
Mr.Pointer |
Eldor specifically talked about “protective mechanisms” of Gaia (maybe Isaac’s, rather), I think the point that Eldor overlooked entirely Ryn’s investigations needs an explanation. |
It’s made clear in the comic that Eldor is already fully occupied with training Lilith and the construction of the tower. |
Mr.Pointer |
Viviana’s life also needs a deeper explanation, of course how they discovered the shadowkeep, maybe Eldor’s hand again? |
It’s shown in The Tower In The Sky #25 how Gradus’ group found the Shadowkeep. |
Mr.Pointer |
Eldor seemed not to know Vivi as well as Lili and San, so he entirely overlooked her either. It’s obvious he knew the shadowkeep and who were the shadowdancers, and he was manipulating them in his gain. |
Eldor wasn’t really interested what the Shadowdancers did in the Shadowkeep since he could have dispelled them easily if needed. |
Mr.Pointer |
San’s life (and how she became Savos’ lover) too. In this case, Eldor had a large hand, so it is also needed. I wonder if it is possible to “resurrect” her, at the minimum Savos would be eternally grateful. |
Resurrection is completely impossible on Gaia. |
Mr.Pointer |
Olenvis surname. It must be at issue. We don’t know Isaac’s surname, but unless Olenvis is a title, the full name of his father must be Isaac Olenvis (creator of Vis?). |
Yes, Olenvis is the family name. |
Mr.Pointer |
The fate of dwarfs. It could be interesting to know how Eldor get all the shards of the tear. |
That’s a sub plot that would have been interesting to explore, but it would have slowed down the story too much. |
Mr.Pointer |
Who was Tibor the third. His personal signature is a major symbol in the story. And about it, why Isaac was an Elf, and surely Tibor too. |
Tibor was Isaac’s assistant. |
Mr.Pointer |
And of course, which is the link between Vivi and the chosen ones (Lili and San). And why was totally unnoticed by Eldor until the very end. |
Viviana was conceived at exactly the same moment as Lilith and San, which gave her a strong spiritual connection to them, especially to Lilith. Note how their souls dance around each other in Breaking All Barriers #156. Eldor wasn’t able to notice this. |
Mr.Pointer |
About the wedding, what is going to happen with Alissa? |
Alissa will be featured prominently in the epilogue. |
alercah |
I think the biggest thing I’d like answered is what time Vivian has in all this! We know she was conceived the same night Lilith was, and that they have a special connection as a result, but what does that actually mean? |
The special connection was explored several times in the comic. I don’t think there’s much to explain here. |
alercah |
Why did Eldor need a piece of San’s soul as well? |
He needed her magical energy, not her soul, to charge the soul sphere. |
alercah |
How much of what Eldor told Vivian was truth? |
There certainly was some truth in it, and Eldor certainly believed it to be the truth. How much of it was actually true™ is left open for interpretation. |
Raven |
How exactly did Lilith absorb the Tear of Gaia? I’m still trying to figure out where and how that happened. |
The Tear of Gaia was merged with her soul in The Bipartite Mind #37 and then reunited with her body in The Bipartite Mind #42. |
Raven |
You said that Lilith used the time distortion to train. How long did she train to be able to cast Ultima? |
A very long time. I will reflect on this in more detail in Gaia: sic mundus creatus est. |
Raven |
What happened to Ryker’s poor parents after their son was killed? |
Nothing unusual I guess. They will be featured briefly in the epilogue. |
Raven |
How is Savos doing since San is dead? |
Probably not too well. He will be featured in the epilogue. |
Raven |
Exactly how did Lilith plan everything out four steps ahead of Eldor, and was there any hint besides “12 instead of 13” that Lilith knew red magic? |
Lilith knows only one Redstream spell, Niko’s Strict Order, which she learned in The Bipartite Mind #19. |
Raven |
How great was the damage done to Greendew after the collapse? |
Well, the damage was extremely severe were the Great Tree landed. The other parts of the city are completely fine apart from a couple of buildings that Bahamut burned down. |
Raven |
Does Oakdale get rebuilt after everything that Eldor did to it? |
I don’t think it’s a matter of the heart for Lilith or Viviana. But if the villagers want to rebuild Oakdale, they probably wouldn’t stop them either. |
Raven |
How exactly do those weird meat trees work? |
Like fruit trees. |
Raven |
How many elves were working for Eldor, and what became of them and the elf society as a whole? |
Eldor was basically the dictator of Ysdar, so there was never a shortage of workers. But excellent engineers, unlike meat, don’t grow on trees.
I will briefly mention the elves in the epilogue, but the whole elfish society was just not within the scope of the story. |
improvius |
Sorry if I’m forgetting a strip or two, but did we ever see or hear anything about the Buffin family after Ryker’s (presumed) death? That always seemed like it would have been a particularly painful loss for Vivi and Ilias, but I don’t recall them addressing it after The Fall. |
Ilias and Viviana briefly talked about Ryker in The Last Queen Of Gaia #18 and Viviana again thinks about him in The Last Queen Of Gaia #22.
Ryker’s parents will be featured briefly in the epilogue. |
Shorts |
What the heck is Trias? Is he a real god or just something made up whose symbol coincidentally shows up in a few key places? If the former, where is he now? |
The hooded guy was simply called “Shady prophet” in the comic’s script. That should answer all questions about the Trias sect.
The Trias sect is using a different triangle symbol than the one Tibor, Isaac’s assistant, used for the doors. |
Shorts |
Was the witch from Lilith’s nightmare a figment of her imagination or somebody real? |
The hag was just a character in a dream. |
Shorts |
Did San de Vertis have to die? It seems like she may have tried to stop Lili from starting the fourth age, and Lili seemed incredibly remorseful about her death. |
It feels safe to say that San had to sacrifice herself to save Viviana. |
Shorts |
What are the Elves up to? Surely they’ve noticed the incredible disturbance. Are they going to continue being a hermit kingdom? |
The elves will be briefly shown and mentioned in the epilogue. But ultimately, the story of Gaia isn’t about the elves. |
Kitsune |
The thing I actually want to know is how the future is connected to past, and what happened with San. She was the one that guided Vivi earlier. Is she alive, then? Will she be rescued? Or how does she showed Vivi the way. She was literally saying to come after her. So it’s like she was guiding her intentionally. So… will she do it in the future? |
San was alive when she entered Viviana’s Shadow Realm to rescue her, but was then killed by the shadow creatures since she was unable to leave the location. |
Pmark |
Explaining how all the visions happened would be great, starting with the voice Viviana heard at her parent’s graves. Who was arranging for all those.flash forwards and flash backs? |
I want to leave it open to interpretation if they were sent back in time deliberately by Lilith when she absorbed the Tear of Gaia, or if they happened as an involuntary side effect. Maybe a mixture of both? |
Pmark |
Did Cassius Livy get his money for helping them with the projectors? |
Cassius will be briefly featured in the epilogue. |
Pmark |
What was the point of felling the Great Tree? |
In The Way Back Home 192, Eldor says that the attack weakened the Spirit Source sufficiently to allow the destruction of the time suspension shield. |
Pmark |
I would dearly love to know what prompted Amos to give Ryn the newspaper. |
I want to leave this open for interpretation. |
Pmark |
What was Eldor’s motivation for visiting Lilith in her cell? |
He wanted to check her progress in person. |
Pmark |
Oh, and how could I forge?. What was poor Casoer’s fate? You know, Vivianna” horse? |
Casper will be featured briefly in the epilogue. |
Pmark |
Oh, and one thing that was never explained, How did our noble party afford to live in Oakdale all those weeks and not run out of money? |
They were prepared for a journey and brought more than enough money with them. Viviana and Ilias were running out of money in Greendew, though. |
Some CreepyGuy |
Does “Reto’s book about Bhaal’s spiritstream” have any significance? San seemed to make a deal of sealing it away instead of burning it in TLQOG 24- 25. |
It supports Eldor’s argumentation, which isn’t in San’s interest. |
Some CreepyGuy |
Are all the scenes in TBM 43-44 of Lili “intervening”, some possibly during the time oscillation? |
Looks like it. But I want to leave it open for interpretation if they’re all deliberate. |
Some CreepyGuy |
What *were* those pages ripped out of that book? They were out of a book about mind manipulation, but I don’t think they were just Nico’s strict order. Maybe something to subtly influence Eldor? |
Those were indeed the pages needed to cast Niko’s Strict Order. |
Some CreepyGuy |
We were led to believe the Source was this intense concentration of magic surrounded by an impenetrable time-suspension spell, but Ryn just falls through it? |
The heroes were surprised too, including Lilith. But a person simply falling through the Source has no ill effect on it. That’s why you also can still eat something after a protection shield has been cast on you. There are some exceptions, though. |
Some CreepyGuy |
San seemed to just “pop up” out nowhere. A bit more backstory, perhaps at her wake? |
Showing more of San’s backstory would have slowed down the story too much. I don’t think it would be overly interesting. She was a magical prodigy and became a member of the Church of Gaia early in her childhood. She then went out on quests to fight the enemies of the Church. |
Matt |
What happened to San in the end? I know she’s probably dead, but in that case, what was with the time-ghost of her Vivi saw in the shadowkeep? |
San is dead. The ghostly appearance in the Shadowkeep is based on her actions in the last minutes in Viviana’s Shadow Realm. |
Matt |
Also, what happened to the dwarves? And what about the creatures that became the demons? |
It feels safe to say that both the dwarves and avariel are long dead. |
Matt |
Could Lilith somehow recreate those races now that she has Gaia’s power? |
Maybe. But not without thinking long and hard about such a risky step. |
Padanew |
Also, what was his goal. He said several different thing at different times I just like to understand his real and stated goals. |
Eldor’s main goals are clearly stated at the end of The Way Back Home. |
Zatch Bell |
Will Ilias find out why he’s looking for the word “kill”? |
Ilias finally understood what Lilith meant with that in The Bipartite Mind #31. |
Aqw |
who is the Trias god that we heard about à few times ? |
The hooded guy was simply called “Shady prophet” in the comic’s script. That should answer all questions about the Trias sect. |
Me-me |
What would have actually *happened* if the time-suspension shield had broken? |
I believe that Lilith’s warning was correct and the explosion of the time suspension shield would have destroyed the planet. |
Me-me |
Do the bluestream, spiritstream, and gaia stay that way after Ultima? |
Pretty much. |
Me-me |
What about the redstream? (Greenstream?) |
Lilith destroyed the Redstream. There is no Greenstream. The color of Lilith’s Ultima spell has no deeper meaning. |
Me-me |
Will magic stay the way it has been, forever? |
Forever is a long time... |
Me-me |
Does Gaia get to just posthumously win? |
For that we would need more info about her ultimate goals... |
Me-me |
How can a criminal organisation like the Shadowdancers exist if their leader is the undisputed supreme ruler of everything? |
Of course they can’t. But there are more than enough interesting jobs for them, for example in Salacea and Milo’s ministry. |
Me-me |
What was true and what was Bhaal’s or Gaia’s lies? |
As mentioned several times above, I don’t want to give a definite answer on this. I don’t think it’s possible for the inhabitants of Gaia to find out the ultimate truth™, not even with Lilith’s help. |
Me-me |
What actually happened to the dwarves? |
It’s safe to say that they were indeed wiped out soon after the Darkness. |
Me-me |
What about the source was “shielded” by the time suspension shield, if we could just physically access it in the Shadowkeep? |
The Source room (aka Sanctuary) was not part of the Shadowkeep. The Door in the Shadowkeep isn’t a normal door, it’s a portal.
The time suspension shield only prevents actually harmful magical attacks. That’s why Ryn simply fell through it. |
Khaisz |
Why was Ilias told “The word you are looking for is kill, don’t tell anyone” and then it was instantly forgotten and never brought up again. |
The word “kill” is extremely important for the dialog in The Bipartite Mind #31. But I won’t explain this in more detail as it’s not too hard to figure out. |
Pylgrim |
Is the Tear of Gaia kind of serving as Lili’s soul now? Or did her actual soul return to her? |
Lilith’s soul merged with the Tear of Gaia in The Bipartite Mind #37, allowing Lilith to absorb its power once reunited with her body in The Bipartite Mind #42. |
Cheekycat |
How was Lilith able to live without her soul, when it was enclosed in soulsphere apart from her body? |
Well, she suffered terribly until San, Malva and some other priests managed to alleviate her pain somewhat. |
Cheekycat |
At which point did she ram the dagger in the arrow of time in Oakdale? We see Vivi acting strangely here, not remembering friends agreeing to keep watch on http://www.sandraandwoo.com/gaia/2015/11/24/breaking-all-barriers-124/ and we know about the odd notes pointing to nine months. |
At that point, Lilith didn’t know what exactly she had done. But she’s referring to the moment where she made Eldor write 12 instead of 13. |
Cheekycat |
What is the meaning of http://www.sandraandwoo.com/gaia/2015/01/30/breaking-all-barriers-042/ and subsequent page – this is how Vivi’s unconscious mind perceives Eldor operating or her, yes? |
Yes. |
Cheekycat |
Is it his true form? Or is he in some kind of a dual state, an elf, but also Bhaal’s self-dedicated creature? |
No, that’s just a nightmare vision produced by Viviana’s distorted mind without deeper meaning. |
Cheekycat |
On the next page, is he searching for a sphere/inserting sphere in her? |
No, that’s also a nightmare vision of Eldor operating on her produced by Viviana’s distorted mind. |
Cheekycat |
And why only Vivi is separated beforehand from her friends? |
Eldor’s maze spell didn’t work properly on Viviana due to the special properties of her soul, caused by her conception at the same moment as the “touched ones” Lilith and San. |
Cheekycat |
Does Ryn being so sure Alissa has to shoot Lilith have any deeper meaning? http://www.sandraandwoo.com/gaia/2016/04/05/breaking-all-barriers-161/ |
It was an overreaction by Ryn, but an understandable one if you put yourself in his shoes. |
Cheekycat |
What is the meaning of a girl with cut hand in Oakdale? |
It further conveys that something isn’t right with the inhabitants of Oakdale. However, I’m really not fond of these two pages and wish I hadn’t written them. |
Cheekycat |
are Faye Galitas and Entin strictly on professional terms? Or is romantinc involvement er, involved? |
Entin is Faye’s assistant. I don’t think romantic feelings are involved. This is the first question about a topic I’ve never considered before! |
dodo |
Well, that is the end of the green stream theory. |
Thank Gaia! |
dodo |
But is Lilith now a goddess? Or just an overpowered human? |
What’s a god but an extremely powerful wizard? (... Apart from immortality.) |
bh |
Was she faking the personality withdrawal all through the second half of the story for Eldor’s benefit? |
She certainly wasn’t faking her pain. But she certainly wasn’t playing with open cards in the last chapters either. That becomes clearer when rereading the story. The Complete Gaia will be an excellent opportunity for that! ;) |
bh |
Also, Viviana has been looking appalled at what Lilith was doing through most of this chapter. Is she still appalled once it’s over, or are they friends again? |
This will be one of the main topics of the epilogue. |
