Ozy and Millie by D.C. Simpson, a comic strip featuring the serene young fox Ozy and his hyperactive best friend Millie, drew me into the world of webcomics in 2005. Simpson’s much anticipated graphic novel Rain Dog became the biggest letdown in the history of webcomics, though. It received several extremely negative reviews and got even mocked by the former fans of Ozy and Millie.

But now Simpson is back with the all-ages comic strip Heavenly Nostrils (start reading here). The first strip was published on 22 April 2012 and since the comic updates seven times a week, there are now already over 300 strips. The two main characters are the the chaotic nine-year-old girl Phoebe and her best friend, the unicorn Marigold Heavenly Nostrils who is regularly stunned by her own beauty and awesomeness. I think it’s easiest to describe Heavenly Nostrils as “Calvin and Hobbes for girls”, but I mean that in a good way. I think the strongest point of the comic is Phoebe who is immediately likeable. Her character design was clearly inspired by Millie, so all Ozy and Millie fans should get their money’s time’s worth. I’m also very fond of the black-and-white artwork, especially the funny facial expressions.

Sandra and Woo defeated Ava’s Demon and is now in the final round of the

2013 Webcomic Tournament at ComicMix!

After beating Buttersafe, Axe Cop, Paranatural, Commander Kitty (one of my personal favorites), XKCD (!) and Ava’s Demon, our opponent in the last round is Bittersweet Candy Bowl. I want to thank everybody for the amazing support that our comic has received so far. While many feel that the rules of the tournament have to change next year (me too), it would be a great honor for us to win this year.

Powree will start to work on the wallpaper featuring private eye Sandy South and her partner Qoo as soon as she finds some time, regardless if we win the contest or not.

Our second comic Sandra and Woo has defeated XKCD and is now a semifinalist in the 2013 Webcomics Tournament at ComicMix! We even received the most votes of all 8 comics in the quarter-final, so there’s a good chance to also beat our next opponent, Ava’s Demon.

I would be really happy if Sandra and Woo won the contest, at least it would give our comic some additional exposure. I doubt we’ll get this far next year, so it would be great if you could support us with as many votes as possible in the last rounds of the tournament! As a little thank-you, we will also publish a new wallpaper featuring private eye Sandy South and her partner Qoo if Sandra and Woo comes off as the winner this year.

Our second comic Sandra and Woo has reached the quarterfinals of the 2013 Webcomics Tournament at ComicMix! Only 8 webcomic of 300 are left, and Sandra and Woo is one of them! Our opponent now is XKCD. I begin to believe that we can actually win this contest since some of the most popular online comics such as Penny Arcade and Order of the Stick haven’t even made it to the quarterfinals. So beating XKCD is certainly possible.

Although I’m still skeptical about the possibility to buy votes for your favorite comic by making a donation to a charity, I would be super happy if Sandra and Woo came out as the winner in the end. That would certainly give our comic some additional exposure. I doubt we’ll get into the same position next year, so it would be great if you could support us this year with as many votes as possible in the last rounds of the tournament! We will also release a new wallpaper featuring private eye Sandy South and her partner Qoo if Sandra and Woo should win.
