Mr Tibbles’ cooking must be bad enough, even before the Bad Cilantro Gene gets involved.
She’d prefer a little salt/nothing over the entire ingredient, and having had more than my share of bad meals, I agree with her. Local foods and hybrid foods are not guaranteed to please everyone. If they did, some jerk would jack up the price on them. Including the (historical/current real life precedence) of taxing efforts to farm said food.

Mr Tibbles’s cooking is probably standard, something like using the recipe printed on the food package. It’s just that the default ways to prepare food sucks, because most spices either already went extinct or are enormously rare (and costly), along with all ingredients which had reasonable taste by itself. It probably didn’t tasted well with just salt either, but as someone who will rather eat food with just salt instead of ketchup I completely understand her.

Luckily for me, I like Cilantro but I have a couple of friends who have the bad reaction to it.
To be fair, they can eat avocado and broad beans, one of which will give me a bad rash and the other which will probably hospitalise me…(and that’s if I get lucky…)

It’s worth to remember that Bloomrabi and Firebeets are the only two plants that are suitable for consumption in large quantity and can also be grow in large quantity. In this world, eating is rarely a pleasure.

To be fair, the list of foods which are pleasure to eat AND can be eaten in large quality is kinda short on our world too. However, they may not have ANY food which tastes good and can be afforded by common people.

Kids are the same everywhere. You can cook them the most elaborate meal and they’ll just want pasta.
Scarlet is actually quite nice when she says “please”.
