I’m worried about Julius surviving, but also Tibor. I can easily see him sacrificing himself to save Scarlet, he even says here they don’t have enough supplies for her, not mentioning himself. Plus the cover page shows her alone… Very worrying.

Another thing that could happen is that their Julius and their parents move away (to where?) because they don’t have any other choice. That would explain why Scarlet does not stay for the whole story with Julius. But yes, that sound really bad.
