A Sky Full of Stars 068

  • Scarlet: Wow, that’s a lot of books! You must really like reading!
  • Gale Nenawa: No, not exactly. These are heirlooms.
  • Gale Nenawa: My great-grandfather was the famous author Rudolph Nenawa. All members of my family keep a part of his huge library to honor his memory.
  • Scarlet: I can’t possibly read all of them. I have to create a shortlist.
  • Scarlet: I’ll give each book a score from 1 to 5. 1 for the most interesting ones, 5 for useless ones.
  • Gale Nenawa: Okay.
  • Gale Nenawa: The History of Velis
  • Scarlet: … 3
  • Gale Nenawa: “The blue wall” and other old legends
  • Scarlet: Oh, interesting! 1!
  • Gale Nenawa: Inspector Zack and the bloody scarf I read that one! It was really exciting!
  • Scarlet: … 5
  • Gale Nenawa: Oh, come on!
  • Gale Nenawa: A Look Back – Memoirs of King Elian of Ultriel
  • Scarlet: … 4

  1. For all of her positive qualities, Scarlet could use a few lessons in tact. (Says the guy who was more tactless at that age than she is.)

Interesting, though, how she and Gale seem to be getting along. The Blue Well is maybe the one that she and Julius explored? If so, a prediction: she’s going to want that book VERY much, and may do something foolish involving a food bribe to get it.

  2. I like the shortlist. Makes greater use of one’s time if in a pressing need to research potentially helpful tidbits, and you can reclassify lower entries later if time frees up. In this case, where crops might fail in the next year or so, time is more precious than some might realize….

  3. Book triage! I like Scarlet’s classification system.

  4. That’s many more books than expected. It’s a mine, so I was thinking a disappointing-to-Scarlet locker of Playboys and Backhoe certification manuals. Maybe How to win at poker. Gale’s library might be the only chance for Scarlet to find a plot hook that isn’t dangerously underground. She was probably already planning to guard the storage shed from the inside, but now she can do it with a book.

    1. Mmm I can see that backfiring…
*a band of robbers comes up*
Scarlet: “The keys are under the doormat. Don’t bother me and try not to make too much noise, I’m trying to concentrate”

    2. It might be more books than what Scarlet already read.

  5. Crazy Firehead takes command in someone else’s house,, just like that. 😎
And makes her hit list, from 1 to 5. 😄
I love her frowny face on the table 6. 😠

  6. Okay I like Gale. I love that kind of enthusiasm.

  7. Oh come on, the Memoirs of King Elian should be a 3

    1. Oh, how wrong you are…

    2. For me, “King Elian” resonates to “Father of Princess Elodie”…
Might be ranked a bit higher :o)
