A Sky Full of Stars 088

Sometimes, I don't have any change requests regarding Elli's initial draft for the page. Unfortunately, this was not one of those times. It took a whole page of notes and a 3D location sketch from Elli to reach the state you can see now.

  1. Too bad the powder got wet. Or the wet got powdered, however it works with these guns.

  2. It went “click”. I don’t think it’s supposed to go “click”.

    1. The Last Queen Of Gaia 003 🙂

      1. At least it didn’t explode into rainbow backlash.

  3. I suspect that this is not a standard gun, but rather some kind of special firing mechanism for an unusual effect. After all, it was stored in a fancy case, unlike all the other weapons that were just hung in the wall. My guess is that something massive and unexpected is about to happen. I’m not sure if it will be lethal, but I am guessing that the wolf isn’t going to get a shot off…

Or maybe it is just a misfire. But I’m guessing intentional part of weapon design.

    1. I think so too, that it’s a special gun.

      1. Yeah, I mean, of course. Why introduce an ancient Arcadian armory if it were just a run-of-the-mill pistol? She could have found one like that in an abandoned farm house or something.

    2. Or, maybe it just doesn’t work anymore on account of being several centuries old. (It’s from an Arcadian armory, and the Arcadian empire was destroyed hundreds of years prior.)

  4. Is the grey pyramid supposed to be there in panel 4? or is that a leftover from the depth-of-field help in the 3d render?

    1. I’m pretty sure that the grey pyramid is the location of their tent.

Also is Tibor going to have to kill another fool?
Seriously, man is going to get to the Daniel Craig Casino Royale point.
“Don’t worry. The Second one is much”
      Gunshot.
      “Yes, Considerably.”

    2. I believe it’s their tent. Which the grey pyramid was meant to represent.

  5. So who is behind the bush then?

    1. I think that’s supposed to show where Scarlet is hiding in panel 2, then the orange shows where she’s standing in later panels.

  6. Assuming the liquid is supposed to be ammo, safety’s on.

  7. BlackDragonSlayer

I hope that Tibor has a fast tackle.

  8. “Look! A distraction!”

    1. “Look! An obvious distraction!” – “Where? I collect those!”

  9. “Look! An obvious distraciton!” – “Where? I collect those!”

  10. Gun safety involved making sure it’s loaded. It looks like Scarlet took the first cool thing she could find and left. If she hadn’t pulled the trigger, she could have continued to bluff. Everybody’s got guns, but what counts is what side has loaded guns. Now Scarlet’s gonna need an organ tourniquet. Anyway, Tibbles is getting robbed! 😀
Interesting that they modelled an accurate shootout map. Readers be wary when that much effort is put in. It tends to get used for bigger things than when the scene started. 🙂

    1. Since she pulled the trigger, she was not bluffing. You also should not bluff with a gun, people who willing to kill can often see if others are also willing to kill, meaning a bluff is the most likely to fail when you need it to work the most.

  11. Scarlet did pull the trigger not knowing the gun isn’t loaded or malfunctioning, meaning she is willing to shoot people. She should have shot without first saying “I told you to drop the gun”, but she is 12 and who would teach her?
The wolf did not realize Scarlet is capable of pulling the trigger, but it may very well be harder to read a child than an adult in a situation like this. He is really lucky the gun didn’t fire though. He did turn his back to Tibor however, but I don’t know how well Tibor can take advantage of it. If Tibor still has his gun, now is the time to draw it and if he hasn’t, he would be in a disadvantage if he tries to tackle a larger wolf. IRL, this would be a situation in which anyone can die, including all three of them.

    1. I don’t think she has aimed at the person; firing a warning shot is a perfectly reasonable action in this situation.

      1. If Scarlet fires a warning shot that’s aimed near the wolf, whish she is, there is no way for the wolf to know that Scarlet fired a warning shot and didn’t just miss him. It would be very likely that the wolf, upon thinking Scarlet tried to kill him, shoots Scarlet.
Also what does a warning shot convey that a verbal warning while holding a gun doesn’t? A warning shot does no more prove that you’re capable of shooting someone than a verbal warning does. Until you actually shoot someone, you have not proven yourself capable of shooting other people.
A warning shot in this situation is an extremely bad idea.

        1. Agree. Also, I don’t believe Scarlet would be so soft.

  12. Wait for it…
