  • Scarlet: Quick, we mustn’t let him get away!
  • Gavin Carolus: Scarlet, no!
  • Gavin Carolus: He has a gun!
  • Scarlet: And why don’t we have one?!
  • Gavin Carolus: He caught us by surprise. We wouldn’t have stood a chance either way.
  • Scarlet: You‘re right. Sorry.

I like how practical and realistic this way of thinking is. It’s true: even if they *did* have an equivalent sort of weapon, they wouldn’t have had much opportunity to use it.

    1. A hardened criminal would most likely have killed Tibor when he pointed the gun upwards to shoot into the air. Obviously, Gavin is not a hardened criminal, but Tibor will sooner or later try to rob the wrong person if he keeps this up.

      1. Not JUST hardened criminal. But yes, would need more hardened person than Gavin is.

      2. Tibor would have noticed that Gavin has a gun and commanded him to drop it.

        1. Can he smell a concealed gun? It makes sense that foxes and wolves would have better smell than humans and it’s also plausible that a scent free gun cannot be manufactured. I’m not sure about asking Gavin to drop the gun though. The police as a rule don’t tell suspect to drop their gun unless they already have them drawn as that would require them to get their hands on the guns.

Anyway, the part about Tibor’s hands shaking tells me that Tibor isn’t exactly hardened into this path yet, so I think him making mistakes makes sense. That said, pointing the gun upward and shooting instead of keeping it pointed towards Gavin is a mistake, one he for realistic reasons got away with, but a mistake nonetheless.

  2. One can say with confidence that this was a life forming event that makes it clear why she’s carrying a humongous BFG on the title page.

    1. That’s an appropriately sized rifle. Not a BFG. It’s not even larger than a mere two of her limbs put together.

      1. It’s very large compared to what Tibor was carrying. For going to war, or hunting, fine, but it’s not exactly the most practical for an entry-level adventurer. Besides, if handguns in this world have a “rermarkable range,” what does she expect to need this one for?

        1. Entry-level adventurers generally needs better weapons than they can afford. Practicality is not the limit.

That handgun might have “remarkable range” but hers have SCOPE. It can probably shot accurately on MILES. At minimum, it being plasma weapon it’s possible you can shoot down satellites with it.

Also, you can probably shoot scumbag like Tibor with it THROUGH the walls of his house.

  3. At least nobody died. So that’s one overused way to timeskip story that Scarlet’s not doing.
As for older Scar needing a rifle, it can be assumed that things are going to get worse from here, materials-wise. When people start stealing because they have no other way to get the money to survive, zipping 5,6 years into the future is unlikely to show a commitment to growth- for story purposes of course. People tend to focus on their next meals instead of making generators equal electricity equals utilities/heat.

    1. Nobody died YET. They don’t have heating and energy now. It’s still possible someone will die due to this.
