- Marik: If the guard shows up--
- Tibor: It was a day’s march from here, near the border. The place was called Milik, I believe. No one there knows me!
- Marik: If the guard shows up, I’ll return the Shards, of course. I don’t want any more trouble with them.
- Marik: And then I’ll look for you and find you. And then you’ll find out what I’m really capable of!
- Marik: Got it?
- Tibor: Yes, Sir!
- Tibor: Phew.

Geez, Marik, just throw him to the wolves next.
Typical end of the meeting, I think. As long as it’s over. Nice scrollwork on the doors. Tibor’s bill is paid off, but what’s his next move?

The previous strip was by far the best one, but this one is still good. Now either the Carolus or Tibor takes the loss as it’s unlikely to end well for both.

I don’t expect Tibor to have to worry (much) about Marik tearing him to pieces. We’ve already seen Tibor use his fancy gun with its “remarkable range”. I wonder if he stole that as well?

If the guards come knocking for the money, Marik will send multiple people who have guns with “remarkable range” to capture Tibor. He’s not going to go after Tibor alone, he will probably not take part of the hunt at all.

They will have guns with “remarkable range” indeed, but they will also be experienced enough to not actually NEED them.

Still nice “bad mafia wolf” vibes here.
“I don’t want any MORE trouble with them.”
So he already has. Because of Tibor? Maybe. But honestly, seeing this confident attitude, he does not intend to return the shards. He does not even expect the guards to show up, he seems confident on that. He threatens Tibor to make sure that he will stay quiet and won’t cause him trouble.
Pretty sure Tibor is not the only one who owes money to Marik and is more or less forced to do “bad” things in order to pay him.

It’s unlikely that he does expect the guards to show up, but there is always a chance they will. It’s a question about probabilities and numbers for Marik. Imagine he’s paid back dirty money dozens of times per year. If there was a 5% chance of the guards tracking the money to him every time that happens, they will be knocking at his door a few times a year. If the chance instead is 0.5%, then he will be bothered by the guards once every few years instead. The former would be a problem as the guards would get suspicious of him while the latter would make it easy for him to feign ignorance. As such, even though Marik probably has an ample share of desperate customers, he needs to discourage them from obtaining the money in a manner that will leave tracks leading to him.
It’s almost certainly not Tibor that gave him trouble with the guards before. If it was, Tibor would not be in the shape he is right now.
