The Machine of Eternal Summer 021

  • Gavin Carolus: Scarlet, please put this bottle next to the others in the cellar.
  • Scarlet: Yes, daddy.
  • Athamas (Scarlet): Princess Elodie, I’m so glad to see you! Edwin the Colorful was right! This cave holds a secret. A hidden treasure!
  • Princess Elodie (Scarlet): A treasure? Where?
  • Athamas (Scarlet): Back there! Behind all the rubble.
  • Princess Elodie (Scarlet): Phew, that’s really a lot of rubble! But I can do it!
  • Princess Elodie (Scarlet): Hmm…

  1. And this is the start of her adventuring career …

  2. today’s word is: cistern

  3. Ah, the long forgotten title character. Bottles, right, gotta get that 5c recycle returns. Crates of apples, or more beets? The alcove isn’t likely to be a secret door, but when you’re armed with both a princess AND a dragon, why wouldn’t it be? They’ll probably need that rubble to burn to prevent death during the oncoming ?-month-long winter.

  4. That looks like a dumbwaiter alcove. Basically a tiny elevator for taking things to and from the basement.

    1. That can’t be a dumbwaiter. There’s no dumbwaiter. There’s no box. There’s no pulley, no rope, not even a wheel to turn. It’s just an alcove. You put brooms in it, maybe an ironing board, or turn it into a few shelves.
This being a story, I wonder why the press-stones to open the hidden passageway or hidden room are low enough for lil’ Scarlet to push?
