  1. BlackDragonSlayer

I give it a 4/5 chance that Reva shows up later as a cyborg.

  2. Yes, go into the shed. If Novil is going to speedrun the Tragic Deaths, then Little Orphan Scarlett should get to speedrun the invading army detachment- with a combine harvester made for corn, not beets.
I don’t know who that is, but one down is one down. And now he’s got a power rifle.
It would be too convenient for it to be Tibor. He just happens to be inside a shed beside an inhabited house without anyone seeing him? Mr Knife has the same gloves as the army fox, so it might be someone trying to get a new pair of boots.

    1. Interesting remark. Tibor does not have gloves in the previous pages. And Mr or Mrs Knife is wearing some kind of mask (?). We don’t even know if he/she is human.
Tibor did not came here to fight, but to apologize or something.

If this was Tibor, what could happened: he noticed the soldiers when coming closer to the farm, hid in the barn because he was afraid of the soldiers, changed clothes for whatever reason (mask + gloves) and stabbed the soldier when he was distracted by Scarlet.
But the clothing thing makes it unlikely.

Unless killed a grondian soldier on his way to the farm (but since he is one of the main characters we probably would have seen it here?), stole his clothes or at least part of it (gloves might be useful after all, and hiding your face too) and hid in the barn after that.

Other possibility: Mr or Mrs Knife is another soldier, from the opposite army. Maybe a special hidden force, that tries to take the others by surprise. They knew the army was coming close to the farm, and a few members hid in this convenient barn.

Other possibility (again): a member of the same army, who did not like killing innocents, and/or waited for the perfect occasion to run away from this bs.

It could also be a spy from the opposite army, working in the grondian army (that’s why he has the same gloves) and took the opportunity to strike now.

Is Scarlet out of danger now? Obviously not. There are still soldiers outside, and we don’t know if Mr or Mrs Knife is here to save Scarlet or just to kill soldiers…

      1. That eye isn’t human. I’m not 100% sure knife hand has a glove on, either.

      2. Chmmm … could Mr Knife be from the Machine? Some sort of guard activated due to Scarlet discovering the machine tasked with eliminating all witnesses? I mean, just because he saved Scarlet now doesn’t mean he’s friend.

        1. “could Mr Knife be from the Machine?”
Panel 4 _does_ remind me of the “hide from The Terminator” meme. But that would be adding another thing that’s going on all of a sudden. That sort of slam-bam-action was fit for a (regretfully earlier) age of comic books. The pace of Eternal Summer hasn’t seemed to be the same “a thrill on every page” style as Superman, Avengers, or Jack Kirby’s Komandi.

      3. Idk about gloves, but it’s not a mask, it’s a fox’s (or other canine) head in shadows (hence the blue-ish colour). As for Tibor, he had an energy pistol, not… whatever blade is held by the shadowy figure (and it’s possible but doubtful he could afford both — unless, that is, he looted a dead Grondan soldier already).

  3. I’ve been critical of the story-telling the last few days, but I also want to be fair: I really love the art style chosen for this comic. I went back through all the submissions for potential illustrators and this artist is by far my favorite. Well done, Novil!

    1. Good point for the eyes.
And for the gloves, I re-read the first appearances of Tibor and noticed that there is a “line” that separates the “orange” from the back of his hand to his white palm.
      It could be Tibor, then.

      1. Something weird happened. I was replying to jomama, not to Eric. ??

  4. Isn’t that the gun from the cover, sans a few upgrades?

    1. It is a gun, must fantasy universes have their own design style, and the cover page is definitely the same in that way. But it looks to be a different model.

      1. Darn, can not edit.
The gun changes between him entering the barn, and him holding it at Scarlet. Including how he holds it.
The entering image does look like the cover.

  5. I did ask in an earlier episode if perhaps foxes and wolves have a great sense of smell. If they had, this would have been a good time to demonstrate that, so I say no for foxes and probably no for wolves as well.

I don’t think the knifeman is Tibor, he does not come off as the person who just like that sneak up on an armed opponent. He was shaking when robbing unarmed victims. If it was Tibor, I think he would have shot the soldier instead. Besides, why would he have that blue eyed mask thing on?

I do wonder if the soldiers are acting in the interest of their nation or if they are acting on their own.

    1. Seeing a soldier about to murder a child in cold blood could easily be all that Tibor needed to kill the soldier without hesitation. I think most people would react similarly. Doesn’t mean it is Tibor, but it definitely could be him given the situation.

      1. I can see Tibor helping Scarlet in that situation, but not like that. The way the knife person is handling the soldier looks confident rather than desperate. If it was Tibor, why didn’t he shoot the soldier instead or if he for reason does decide to use a knife, why didn’t he stab the soldier in the back? Stabbing the soldier in the back would have been faster.

It can be Tibor, but it should not be.

  6. Do we have any clues yet as to why this “Reva” merits a name, rather than “unnamed mook who menaces the protagonist, then dies messily and is never heard from again”? The other mook apparently doesn’t merit one.

    1. To save typing in the transcript and comments?
Reva’s name is used a lot.

  7. Andrew Kippenhan

Person who stabbed Reva: “Don’t take it personally. Times are tough. We all need to take care of ourselves first.

  8. There are similarities to the “Foreign Soldier” in the Artwork drafts.
Considering the shape of the wheelbarrow in the penultimate panel (in comparison to that in the forth one), he has some impressive metal bending skills.

    1. So the wheelbarrow is the artistic processing of a broken ankle?
      Artists are an interesting species.
      Get well soon!

  9. NOW I wonder if it’s related to the underground ruins.
Like killing everyone and being too close to what Scarlet found. If it was a raid, then they might have been captured or forced to stay inside.
