The current story arc started with this strip: There’s Still Hope.
A more subtle one…
- Sandra: I’m not a five.
- Woo: Wow, your dress is really pretty.
- Sandra: Why, thank you.
- Sandra: …
- Woo: Huh, why are you mad?

never say her dress is pretty always say she looks pretty in that dress or just she looks pretty
Hey Novil, I’m realy sorry I’m bothering you like this, but I’ve send you an e-mail concerning some problems I had when donating. Just in case you missed it.(sorry)
Sandra, the dress is pretty, but you make it beautiful 😀 (sappy I know). Anyway, don’t be so touchy about a compliment. Poor Woo, that would never happen to you the forest (I think).
Not even the raccoon can win….
I hope this doesn’t end before we get to Cloud, because he’s probably gonna get stuck in the worst trap when it comes to this kind of thing.
That trap being when Sandra asks if she is prettier then another girl…
Good luck to Cloud should that occur.
Poor little woo being caught in the problems of a young girl…
I will be thoroughly surprised if he gets through this unscathed, her father is already one casualty.
You figure he’d be a little more sly with words.
Next time – compliment the girl and get a cookie.
Actually, I’m thinking that she knows he’s probably the only racoon in town that got nothing during mating season. So, if someone who’s bad at dates says something is good, you avoid it. It’s like the weatherman joke: if the weatherman predicts sun, take a raincoat.
Oh, that’s SUCH a common guy mistake, right there. Will we ever learn?
…I’m not sure that’s the kind of thing Woo would mention to Sandra, Frank.
Me, I have experience with women as friends and acquaintances but I’ve never had experience with a woman in a love-cross relationship. How I complement women is that I just say something about them is nice, if they ask questions about it, I calmly explain myself. If they get picky about it, I just abandon the complement altogether and either start conversation from a different angle or leave them to what they’re doing. I’m pretty sure this strategy won’t work in a serious love-cross relationship so I’m pretty sure I have nothing to offer except a headache.
How about if she was fat or/and ugly and the dress was the only thing that was pretty? It would have been an insult to both honesty and the dress itself if we lied there!
Well, Woo was honest by beeing nice.
Of course it’s the dress. It’s the only thing that changed after all ^^
But that’s not what she wanted to hear XD’
But I think that’s a common problem between men and women (it’s obvious, isn’t it?)
They want to look good so they dress different but they don’t want to hear that the dress looks good.
What happens then is a fight we men can’t win without a white lie.
Easy solution: Be yourself and dress as you like and not just as others excpect.
But this solution is “killed” by our society… again!
btw:
That’s also the reason why I’m an enemy of high-heels 😕
I don’t like this rating stuff but I would give a girl with high-heels 1 point less.
Girls! Stop killing your feet!!! Torturing yourself doesn’t make you more pretty!
Sorry, just had to say that 😕
I didn’t get the joke until I read the first comment. Pretty funny once I realized! But then I thought some more, and it really is a compliment. It implies that she has good taste in clothing. I would always be happy to hear my clothing complimented. I think that’s why I didn’t get the joke at first.
Girl: “Oh I love your dress, it looks so good on you.”
Guy: “Dude. Cool Shirt.”
Tomato, Tomah-to. Same sentiment, different language.
@gamerjoel135: You know darn well Cloud is going to get trapped into this. I just feel sorry Woo already did. 🙁
“Wow, your dress is really pretty,” is a good compliment, but when she’s feeling insecure, a better one would be, “Wow, you really bring out the best in that dress!” An even better thing to do when a girl is feeling insecure is to just avoid them and hang out in the woods. He should just thank the gods that she’s too young for a particular monthly problem.
Btw, got my Woo yesterday finally.
Woot!
Some advice, order from amazon instead of lulu if you can, their shipping service is not so good.
Huh. Sandra seems to have switches faces with Larisa in the last panel.
Woo really should have complemented Sandra. The dress is definitely a 5 or less. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Why is Sandra mad?
Girls…. I just don’t get them!
*facepalm* I had to read this comic eight times before I figured out why she was angry.
Ridiculous.
I think what’s really funny is that Woo seems to have some taste in fashion despite not wearing any. 😀
Ah woo, you’ve no idea what you’ve gotten into.
Oh, we’re supposed to get mad when someone compliments our clothes and not how /we/ look in them? I’ve been doing this girl-thing all wrong!
*Sigh* Women… You can’t tell them compliments without them twisting it into offence through vague subtexts.
Sandra, just take the compliment as it’s offered.
Wow, I suppose the fact that I had to read the comments to get this one should tell me something about the reasons why I have been notoriously unsuccessful with women.
Sandra and Woo, teaching clueless guys what they’re doing wrong, one comic at a time!
@Blitzkrieg1701:
I would have made the same mistake. Or, not noticed at all… *shrugs*
@Bucc-i:
I once was very cross, like Sandra is now. A good, swift street fight cured that mind numbing anger really quickly. Maybe, she needs to take up boxing for a bit, or something.
I’ve been trying to figure out what the problem is since Monday, I’m glad that I checked the comments because I was COMPLETELY oblivious! Esp important since I just started dating for the first time in about 2 years, guess my suaveness is rusty.
Girls, you should go naked. You’ll get more compliments than you know how to handle, and you’ll avoid being complimented on your dress. Simple.
I just wish girls didn’t have these knots in their brains …
I got the joke after looking at the strip the 2nd time round. 😀 Poor Woo… but hey, he’s not human.
What the heck is up with her!? She just got a comment from a raccoon! that’s pretty rare…although I must say…the dress is well…ugly……*PUNCH*….
Im guessing its a mirror gag xD
Why is she mad?
Run Woo, take to your paws and run!
sorry 2 sound like a dumb ass but i dont get this one
Huh. I’m a guy… And now I’m kinda worried that I immediately saw what Woo did wrong… NEVER compliment a girl on her clothes alone, that just implies that the girl herself isn’t worth complimenting… “You look great in that dress,” is a pretty iffy one too… Good luck Cloud ;D
So close and yet so far….
ahahahahahahaahahahahaha
WAY to much anime, thought he was looking up her skirt
ahahahahahahaha
gawd i am disapointed in me..
I am honestly surprised no one ever figured it out. Woo is holding up his left arm/hand. Thus he is giving her (in Sandra’s eyes) “A left handed compliment.” For those unfamiliar with the phrase it’s a snide remark/comment that sounds sincere.
One thing I don’t like about girls is that you have be VERY careful about what you say and tread lightly around every subject.
Long gone are the days when I treat lightly around girls’ feelings.
I simply am not willing to participate in asinine no-win scenarios any more.
.
If she is going to be insulted no matter what… better to just come out and insult her from the get-go. She gets the insult she is looking for, and you get the result you aimed for. Pyrrhic victories all round.
@ John:
Why anyone would choose to participate in that game (on either side) is simply beyond me. I’m certainly not going to go looking for any way my words could be taken negatively; why should she?
(I know only a minority of women are like this, but I can’t get why there are as many as there are. It seems like it would be one of the most boring games imaginable)
Cuz being attractive to a raccoon is not the same as being attractive to a human?
Poor Woo.
Now, why IS she angry?
Is it because he didn’t say that SHE was pretty or is it because he only noticed the dress but not her hat?
This is why we tigers usually prefer not talking.
