Well, I don’t know… maybe it is more of an urge for them than something pleasurable. I know the more intelligent animals have recreational sex (some Monkeys, Chimps, Dolphins, Humans) but have you ever seen lions having sex? They don’t look like they are having fun.

While there are exceptions, the majority of Nature appears to have sex as a kind of chemical response cycle override. Meaning that the body, at certain times and under certain conditions, produces chemical stimulii that initiate responses in the brain to create the urge to merge. Without this chemical condition happening, the two sexes may very well have no wish to even be around each other.
