The current story arc started with this comic: Irrhetorical Question.
Thanks to the Twitter user Durnakans who provided the French translation of Theo’s dialog in the last panel.
Only -1 for craziness. I’m not sure about that…
- Theo: You just landed on top of Larisa’s “friends ladder”. And since Larisa is a 9…
- Benjamin: 10 for attractiveness, -1 for craziness.
- Theo: … you’ll never be able to jump over to her “real ladder”.
- Landon: That makes sense. But I wasn’t exactly expecting a French kiss from Larisa for my help.
- Larisa: I got a B-!! Wheee, thanks so much!! Would you like a little thank-you kiss?
- Landon: Uhm, yes?
- Larisa: Would you like some more thank-you kisses?
- Landon: Glurk.
- Larisa: Come on then, let’s go to my place!
- Caption: The next day.
- Benjamin: Do you still need somebody to study with for the French test next week?
- Larisa: ?
- Theo: N’écoute pas ce perdant! J’ai eu un A+ au dernier test. Viens étudier avec moi!

@ Mulldrifter:
You know, “looser” is very used in French, even if it’s an English word. 😉
If there is any analogy that has anything to do with ladders and Larissa it would have to be the board game “Snakes and Ladders”.
No matter where you are, your moves will have you ending up in unexpected places.
And Landon learns the first rule of relationships;
Never, under any circumstances, should you believe that you or anyone else knows what the woman is thinking.
For those who don’t speak French (5 years of it paying off a little here):
“Don’t listen to that idiot, I got an A+ on the last test. Come study with me!”
@ Rev_Samurai:
Agreed. Real life could be more like comics some times…
I like the fact that Larissa apparently understands stunned-nerd-speak.
She correctly translated “Glork” into “Oh God, yes!” 😀
Wait… was she listening at the door, and did that just to be contrary?
Nah…
Who am I kidding? She’d know instinctively how to do it.
I love this comic!
Hah! Perfect follow up ; )
Okay, you just made my WEEK! 😀
Seriously it was so great to see the lil guy get lucky… yeah it’s normal that that happens in these stories, but not like that and that’s so SWEET! X)
Is a double-date with Sandra and Cloud next?

It’s stuff like this that makes this comic interesting to read. =]
Man, all I really want to know is where I can get some awesome purple pants like hers.
Apparently that was a ‘little’ one too.
You see, this mirrors real life exactly! This is pretty much what happened every time one of my friends said anything that started with “This is how girls work…”
i.e. soon enough the exact opposite happened. Then we’d all be back to square one.
@ J. N. Squire:
I understand and I don’t intend to translate the strips anyway. French is my first language but I don’t have time to do these things. It’s more a suggestion to have a French version than a proposition to translate the strips.
@ Vinceat852:
Je ne connais pas de bandes dessinés aussi bon que ceux que je lis en anglais, mais ça ne veut pas dire qu’il en existe pas en français. Je ferai des recherches un jour… probablement.
Translation : I don’t know strips as good than those I read in English, but it’s not mean than there is not French strips. I will search for it someday… probably.
Hmmm… does this mean I’m going to have to change my name to Landon+Larisa_Shipper? *wink* Don’t get me wrong, I would be fine with that but I unfortunately have my doubts that we will be seeing much of Landon in the future.
I just wonder what happened that night…
What this turns out like will depend on what Larissa ends up doing with Glurk, err, Landon… 🙂
If Landon knows what he is getting into, he’ll possibly maintain some sanity. And if he can really pique Larissa’s interest, things will be quite intriquing.
But who else thinks Larissa has Escalator system (not a Ladder) with the top steps loaded with ejection steps? 😀
@ TLein:
Oh, and something that someone mentioned and I had to check, Larissa’s clothes DO change, but then, how often do you get your grade RIGHT after the exam? Umm, I didn’t have that ever in my time in the education process.
So the explanation of Ladders took even LONGER than just the exam… 😀
woohoo, ‘Let’ go to my place’ she says..
Thinking equivocal is really fun! 😛
Nice idea and really fitting.
Larisa may be aware of the ladder theory and may even understand it in detail. It’s just that she knows something that’s much more important: Where a guy stands, in her judgement, is wherever she chooses. Her feelings, her choice, her judgement: theories need not apply.
I hope Larisa and Landon stay together for a while, they could prove to be an interesting match…
But, she said she got a 1 in German, which is the highest grade…
How does that transfer to a B-…?
Darn my obsessive compulsive nature.
Jeez, saw this one coming! XD Oh Larissa, you have no ladders!
Also, on a side note: purple jeans! I actually have a pair~ =D
“In a perfect world, all the geeks get the girls…” -Geeks Get the Girls ~American Hi-Fi
^^^^That shall be their theme song IF they turn out being a couple 😀
this and the prevoius two strips:
Genius
Genius
Genius
hee! I hope Landon isn’t a passing interest to Larissa (which is most likely but a girl can hope right?) I still like the idea of being together, after all Landon is quite the knight in shining armor especially when the chips are down.
I do like how Larissa and Cloud seems to age, but Sandra doesn’t feel like she’s changed much, maybe she’s a late bloomer. Then again, Sandra’s so cute with her hair down. ♥
Ladder-jumping? Doesn’t surprise me, Larisa is basically a male in terms of personality profile anyway.
Not that ladder theory has any basis in reality of course, women just tend to over-compartmentalise things.
+2 for craziness.
Larisandon and SandCloud shippers are overjoyed with this budding romance, but Landra and Clarisa shippers are hoping something goes wrong.
I suspect kids these days don’t conform with just French kisses…
Each mark in Crasiness is -.25 points.
Pff, Larisa has her own ladder theory.
Larisa is so out there! It’s a refreshing, if sudden, sort of thing. He approves.
Geeks rule the world. ;D Maybe undesirable when they were young, but they run the big businesses and get the big money.
Rate this comment up if you think Larisa deserves a +1 for her craziness instead!
The line; N’écoute pas ce perdant! J’ai eu un A+ au dernier test. Viens étudier avec moi! means, Do not listen to that loser! I had an A + in the last test. Come study with me!, in French.
never underestimate us nerds we’ll steal the hot ones right out from under your nose >:3
I understood everything he said in French except for “perdant”…thanks to Sandra and Woo, I now know.
and years of guy research go down the drain.
@ Sand Fox:
I’d have to disagree with you there. Go to any site commenting on Western dating culture or even the Men’s Rights Movement, as you’ll find that women preferring abusive jackholes and criminal deviants or nice guys is the new normal.

THEIR FACES.
THEY EXPRESS MY FREELINGS RIGHT NOW.
all women in the whole world should follow her example
OH YEAH BICTH!
I must ask, did it really take a day to explain the ladder theory? The teacher couldn’t have graded her test she just turned in in one class period.
The LaLa ship has launched.
Wow! I was very surprised with that french line! 🙂 Since I’m french it was very cool! But at this time I was just like “…. Whut?!” x)
Yay subversion of silly theories!
I really don’t know about that first panel. I’ve thought about what I’d want in a mate if that ever becomes a priority in my life, and my conclusion was “smart and a bit crazy”.
