[1144] It’s The Only Explanation

- Mrs. Ray: Good morning, class! Today, we have a special guest! Bill Holbrook, the creator of the three comic strips “Kevin and Kell,” “On the Fastrack” and “Safe Havens.”
- Mrs. Riley: Bill, first I’d like to know how you’ve managed to draw 21 new strips every single week for the last 20 years.
- Bill Holbrook: Thanks to the drugs, Mrs. Riley.
- Bill Holbrook: An outrageous amount of drugs! More drugs than you could ever imagine!!
- Mrs. Riley: I think we underst–
I think that guy uses drugs. I really can’t be sure, though.
The truth is out there.
There is no person named Bill Holbrook who draws comic strips.
It’s an evil consortium (well, y’know, it is a consortium, so it kinda has to be evil, it’s like a law, meaning to obey ‘the’ law it has to break laws) of comic-book artists who actually share the duties.
I guess this strip is Powree and Knorzer’s way of telling the world they’re now in the consortium!
Bill Holbrook’s lawyers would like to have a word with you Mr. Knörzer.
Righto… don’t invite non scientist celebrities to schools… it is unlikely to end well…
…..
‘kay, that went dark.
Proof of the Fourth Wall though.
That’s only 3 per day. I wonder what he does the other 23 hours and 30 minutes
And I just assumed that Bill could draw 3 daily comic strips because he has a simplistic drawing style.
Hmmm…I wonder if he smokes? I used to do my best writing back when I smoked a pipe. Hmmm…is tobacco worse than “…an outrageous amount of drugs.” ???
That’s exactly how Shaft produced anime on shoestring budgets back in the 2000s.
Well, Mr. Knörzer, as you now know how it works, when will you start pushing out 3 pages a day? Looking forward to it! ;p
Is there an in joke I’m missing here?
As the saying goes: “That escalated quickly”
@ Thisguy:
Bill draws 3 daily web comics and that seems absolutely absurd for anyone with an appreciation of the work it takes to make a webcomic, and he’s been doing it forever. K&K started in 1995 and is the longest running daily webcomic ever. They are relatively simple in art style and only 3-4 panels, but it’s still amazing.

The number of comics per day isn’t the issue so much as how does he keep coming up with ideas? While there are gag-a-day strips, there’s also story-lines, including some that last decades For example in Safe Havens they’re on their way back from a trip to Mars. This trip had been talked about at least a decade, and many things that happened in the interim all got tied up with a nice tidy bow, explaining some of the mysteries of the strip. (Where mermaids came from is getting explained right now.)
It’s absolutely mind-boggling how creative the man is and how he’s kept this up for so long.
Technically, he only draws 20. Safe Havens doesn’t have a Sunday edition.. #UmmActually
A commission for Novil is a vote for Alternative Bloodstream Contents.
Hmm, one one hand, the comic would deteriorate badly if Oliver or Pow became crackheads, and I don’t wish them harm. On the other hand, we’d all have this narrow window of cheap, good, one-scene no-holds-barred commissions we could bargain for.
Health and wellness for the SaW crew… Larissa mudwrestling Sandra in bikinis.
Health and wellness… Sandra doing unprintable things with non-raccoons.
Gosh, I start with a response about Robert Munch and Robin Williams, and it ends up like this.
Eh. We’re talking insulin, here, aren’t we?

there are times when this strip is best read while enjoying the finest medicinal marijuana
20 strips. Safe havens doesn’t have a sunday strip.
unholy amounts of cocaine, huh?
Well I want a Acid Trip colored version of the last frame cause that would be awesome.
An interesting plug.
I suppose his check is in the mail, or would Novil prefer Bitcoin?
I wonder why this comic has lego-related tags (and always in two different spellings)?
Can’t see anything lego-related there.
You had too much coffee, Mr. Holbrook.
(laughs)
I think Novil wants to say us something. But it’s only a weird thought of me.
As a reader of Kevin and Kell… none of this surprises me.
I figure the same goes for Howard Tayler
The fact that I got an advert for Detox Camp on the sidebar made the joke even funnier.
Are Mrs. Ray and Mrs. Riley identical twins?
Most commonly known as the Steven King method of writing.

@ SaboteurSupreme:
I will not stand idly by and allow you to slander a webcartoonist like that! That’s beyond the pale! That’s reprehensible! That….
…wait, are those actual pills pouring out of his drool stream?
…I stand corrected.
Please tell me that that’s NOT true! I’m a big fan of his work, and I’d be devastated if so…
(Plus, it gives the Trolls something more to gloat and rudely remark over, despite how world-renowned and successful his comics are — they have no respect or appreciation towards him. They call those comics “badly written” for a start and they belittle any polite comments and references made towards them, should the topic be similarly related)
And yes, Holbrook has seen this strip, as evidenced by his Twitter feed.

That’s statistically significant, but not clinically statistically significant.
@ Davie Van Domelen:
What’s his twitter? Google’s not finding it.

Note caffeine. Is a drug
No “drugs” tag?
And here the reason I fell a month behind was because I was busy binge-reading K&K…
@ Roguebfl:
Sugar is also a drug, like caffeine. Most of us don’t believe this because we are maintaining.
So this is why my artistic muse completely died off…. huh..
