I’m not into Oliver’s anti-so-called-“SJW” strips either (though ever since the “substitute teacher” arc I’ve kept silent about it here, since it’s his comic and he clearly isn’t going to change his mind on such topics). But I don’t see how the current arc is even remotely anti-so-called-“SJW.” It’s just goofy fun. If the Sentinelese were portrayed in “blackface” style, spoke in “minstrel show” or “caveman” dialect, or some such, then yeah, I’d agree. But that’s not what’s going on here.

I think the “obvious clue” is that this is 2020: everything goes wrong. So the way to emerge unscathed from this predicament is to try to commit suicide by throwing yourself into the volcano! If Sandra tries that, she’ll suddenly find herself at home, safe and sound. (It’s like Arthur Dent learning how to fly: Throw yourself at the ground … and miss.)
