[0111] Shark Jumped The Woo

The current story arc started with this strip: Child labor.

I loooove the second panel. :) While I was hoping for a nice drawing when writing the script, I really did not expect something as impressive. Thank you, Powree.

Hilarious! A slapstick joke about getting slapped by a stick! Of course, the stick IS attatched to a rake…

and if this is a jumping shark, is this shark going to become a recurring character? The shark is beautifully drawn, though, and I love the freaked-out-Woo silhouette.

Lastly, no I didn’t stay up ’till midnight just to put this. It’s 6:15 PM over here.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back to bed!

I swear, this comic is far too clever for its own good, with all the extra little jokes I’m finding…
    … and I love it!

in soviet russia, shark jump woo!

Actually, they apparently live up near the Great Lakes. That presents a problem however. I don’t know about Soviet Russia, but we didn’t have any fish that big in the Lakes when I used to live up there…. I know they were having issues with non-native species of sealife hitching rides in boats though. Must have gotten worse….

    Rakes, a raccoon’s greatest enemy.

My only response after reading this was, “Wow… that JUST happened…” Then I laughed quite hard.

So much hilarity at once!… and what was a rake doing there? Poor Woo, one thing after another… But hey, sharks gotta eat too!

    Just awesome.

Is it just me, or does that rake appear to be raccoon sized?

Ok, I’m confused, where do they live? Or is that a rare Lake Shark?

Reading the current story arc apparently drops your IQ,because it makes no sense. That in itself, would be a good thing because people would have a hard time trying to figure out what is going on or why it is happening. That is the irony in it and the point of it,there’s no coherent plot, that and that 4th wall being blown up three comics ago.

You should make that second panel into a wallpaper. It would be awesome.

A rake at the lake… but what is the shark doing there?
And why doesn’t shark rhyme with lake and rake?
(To be honest: The rake has nothing to do there either…)

Also, the rake seems to be a more succesfull predator than the shark…
    Hey! Wait a minute…
Is this about how accidents at home are more dangerous than any wild animal could be???

The rake is epic too :3.

Enzeru, Woo was *already* wet :-D

And as for people who don’t “get” the current story arc, look back at “all puns intended”, I think it’s the same idea. Or, you can take after Doc Wilder’s comment on Monday and hope the “evil organization” that “altered Sandra and Woo’s substantive reality” will eventually be revealed, and the Fourth Wall put back up with it.

That 2nd panel would make an INCREDIBLE cover of a Sandra and Woo book.

I do hope it wasn’t me saying S&W was just a gag strip that started the metagagging arc… but I wouldn’t be too upset if it were, since it’s a fun arc.

These aren’t as funny as they used to be. Ever since you started this arc with the bucket, it has lost its meaning. The other arcs were a lot more interesting.

    @Kormiak:

Yes. I would say the rake is Woo’s size.

My theory on that is that it’s not a ‘real’ rake. It’s one of those plastic deals for the kid’s to use while pretending to be like mom and dad out in the garden. Which also makes sense why it’s A) at the beach (Kid’s toys, like mini-shovels and such to play with the sand) and B) just laying around. (Kid’s are often really bad at picking up their toys after playtime concludes.)

This theory goes double for Woo. He has no shoes and a real rake could really hurt his unprotected paws.

Oh, man. The shark. What images that brings back. Is that Fonzie leaning up against the tree, way back there, by chance? ;P (Analysis: When the ‘character jumps the shark’, that’s come to mean that the series only goes downhill. So, when the ’shark jumps the character’, does that mean the series has great heights, yet unexplored? Oh, I do hope so.) Or, perhaps, that is an example of a ‘Land shark’. (See Saturday Night Live humor; old school.)

I’d say from the effort given that the shark’s intent was not to hunt, but more territorial. While I’m no expert, I believe that shark’s tend to hunt below the water and only surface as much as is needed to bite without moving like the playful dolphins. However, this rather energenic shark did give an excellent opportunity for some very fine detailed work to be shown. :D

And, then…there’s panel one. With the fur so slicked back…feels like it should be a nudist beach. Never mind that Woo is always ‘all natural’…

So, if the shark jumps woo rather than the other way around, does that mean you’re about to start suddenly JUMPING in popularity and hitting your full stride? XD

    Classic.

  38. Onyx says:

The point of it is that the term “… jumped the shark.” actually refers to the exact moment … when you realize that something has lost the je ne se quoi that makes is special. Generally referring to a television show, band or actor. So then the implied humor being that if the opposite happens. We have apparently seen the rock bottom moment of S&W meaning that there is no lower point than this and that we will see only improvement.

Some might argue, ahem, that the humor of this particular comic in it’s self-referential disparagement actually elevates it from the lowly station of lowest point of existence for S&W, thereby making it also a paradox. Which is even funnier. I’ll leave it to you as to whether or not the paradox negates itself, destroys the universe or something entirely different. :P
