LTWFTW (if you understand, good for you)
Sid’s mom from France? Interesting. Let us see how this goes, then, shall we?
Love The World, For The World?
Also, Hazel is extreemely cute!
@ Landbark:
Well, if he was born in the US, then he would adopt an American accent 🙂 Accent is an environmental characteristic, not genetic.
Other than that, it’s great that we will finally get a bit of a back story to Sid 😀
I would love to see the faces on airline security when they open that suitcase.

Then just stay tuned! 😉
go figure Sid’s origin story involves a fail.
This just tends to prove that English is an universal language and that everywhere on Earth, people speak English.
OMG! she was with child….no need to continue. Although I would like to know how she managed to slip past airport security.
@ JackXD:
I was told English and Spanish are the two most common languages in the world. That doesn’t mean everyone on planet can speak both languages universally in addition to whatever native language they are versed in. But, that does mean that polyglots will probably know either Spanish or English as a second language.

Ummm… you do realize that this comic is bilingual right? it’s in German and English.
And yes, English were used around the globe, but not all earth population speak English right?
*ahem*
Now, about the comic…
Say, this is intriguing me, did Hazel pregnant with Sid when she went to America? or she met a nice male squirrel in America?
rester a l’ecoute Mesdames et Messieurs!
……….
yes……..
Google translate…
at least i admit it right?
@ Landbark:
No probably not. I’m guessing mama squirrel is already pregnant with him and he gets born in USA.
Also i’ve been reading this webcomic for a long time and never commented.
intresting.

@ Gabrielsthoughts:
Well Actually Mandarin is the common Language
Huh……..that actually isn’t a bad idea, but don’t you think they’d notice the (minute) extra weight?
Found this comic a couple days ago. I really like it! You guys do a nice job of tying sweetness and humor with seriousness and contemplation. Also it reminds me a lot of Walt Kelly’s Pogo comics from the forties. Love it!
For some reason, this page doesn’t load properly when I come here from isitfunnytoday.com. It seems to load alright at first, but then everything becomes white.
Oh, an accidentally squirrel-napping!
@ JackXD:
Would you like it more when the text would be written in french? >__>”’
… I guess I better skip the joke I wanted to make here…
Also English is just a quite easy language. Not as complex as others hence it’s easy to learn which is the reason so many people took it as there first foreign language and therefore it is spoken so commonly all over the planet now (not vice versa).
(In return english is now told everywhere because it is so wide spread of course.)
In fact there was a vote in the USA (can’t remeber the year) regarding the language.
As far as I know: English won with one more vote than German and became the commen langauge of the USA :P. Spain was quite high in that vote too.
But it’s not universal at all. There are plenty of countries left on the planet in which no one learns english since they just don’t need it.
Most of them are third world countries, but still.
But the language with the most native speakers is mandarin ^^
(as Eagletoo already noted)

Doubtful as that suitcase is pretty full and they did put a bunny plushie/stuffed animal in there just before closing it. European (red?) squirrels are smaller than American Grays. Maybe 1/2 pound (1/4 kilogram) versus a full pound (1/2 kilo) for a Gray. They wouldn’t notice it or blame the difference on the plushie.
By the way, I appreciate the squirrels being depicted as…well…squirrels, climbing around/leaping from branch to branch on all four paws.
I was just trying to point out that this comic is taking place in France, Paris and they’re speaking English/German. Not French. Didn’t mean that everyone in the world speaks English literally. Although I would like it because then I wouldn’t have to worry about understanding what other people speak, and I could just travel anywhere. And my country’s language isn’t English, in case some of you think I’m discriminating. I just found English a very easy language to learn (my classmates would disagree).

Oh, no… now that poor father gets in trouble for trying to smuggle wild animals into the US…

Merely to avoid misinformation (no disrespect yaall):
English is a lingua franca because of worldwide military and economical imperialism on the hand of England, primarily in the 18th and 19th centuries (1700s, 1800s), and further cultural imperialism from then on. It’s easy to learn because you start early, and have great and wide input.
As for languages in the US:

Although I love to hear backstories of characters I can’t get over my sensitive side who almost cries when he think about how Sid’s mom got taken away from her home. :'(
So sad, but that’s how drama works right? So nice, just keep it up. 🙂
I hope that suitcase is carry on luggage! 😮
this is my guess or hanzel meets gretel they have an awesome battle with the witch, win, live in the US inside a candy house, and sid meets Dr Brown goes back in time to the ice age meets Many and Diego, but to prevent a paradox throws Diego in a portal BACK to dora where he belongs, creating a time portal in wich Darth vader comes from the planet vulcan and sends Sid to the present where he came from, destroys the hulk, but the wolverine isnt happy so he fights sid, sid, who just lost challenges wolverine to rock paper scizors, uses gun and wins wolverine runs away, leaving sid at the final boss the scene changes to an 8-bit fight against shadow he jumps OVER shadow grabs the axe, shadow runs away BUT before he can sid hits the ground with his axe,and saves the day and humanity is doomed. But thats my guess…..
Credit to- marvel comics, the makers of ice age and dora, sandra and woo and the germans who invented Hanzel and gretel as i erm, borrowed some characters and didnt make them.
@ Greek:
Whoops and back to the future i didnt make that either…..

Yeah, it’s the most spoken language overall. But mainly, it only works for speaking with Chinese. (Not very many people speak it as foreign language.) English on the other hand has more foreign speakers than native ones. 😛
So, arguably English is the common language, even if not the most spoken language. (Adding up the foreign speakers, Mandarin still beats English by couple hundred million speakers, but it’s quite close with about a billion speakers for English and 1.2 billion for Mandarin.)
Spanish also has more native speakers than English (barely), but is only a distant third when foreign speakers are counted. (Its close rival with equally tight competition as English/Chinese would be Hindi-Urdu)
I don’t know what to say but I love reading the comments. 😀
Learning!
Wow where is Sid living now
@ Hoheh:
Before I forget, Larisa’s revenge face looks great in color.
Who is reading my comments
@ Hoheh:
Yes I agree
So was Hazel pregnant when she fell into the briefcase? I feel sorry for his dad. losing hiw wife to a weak twig.

Honestly the only part of that I could figure out is the last three letters and not the first three in any case great comic and first time commenting.
Honestly for a second i thought That justin slammed the case on hazel’s hand. And personally i think that Justins daughter somehow, saw hazel falling….? Just a guess and is hazels husband PART of the tree? Take THAT to the H.E.T.D.
Unless a major upset happens, congrats on getting 4th place!
So now we get know Sid’s family, even if it starts by a drama. I wonder if Madeline (Justin’s daughter) will take Hazel as her new plushie?
@ Eagletoo:
Only by population not by areas in which it is spoken. That being said I think English is spoken in more countries than Mandarin, followed by Spanish and French.
Hmm, I wonder if that bunny is the one from C’est La Vie?
w00t! I’m finally current!
Happy woo year!
@ Greek:
agreed! Happy Woo year! xD
…need that on a banner or something…
any woo (lol, punny…) i’ve been ‘silently’ reading this for a few months now,and i’ve gotta say it’s pretty darn funny.. especially the hallowen gag you did xD very nice, along with the ‘hit boy’ arc. sorry it took me so long to comment on this, but I just..don’t… really comment on things.. *shrugs* ah well.
again, to quote greek: “Happy Woo Year” and many more!

I’m sad for Hazel and her mate there, it must have been terrible to be separated like that, and Hazel never gets to see him again :c I wonder how often she spoke of him while Sid was growing up. She must be a strong character to have faced that kind of hardship and come out in one piece. I wonder if we’ll see her in future strips, outside of a flashback.
Novil wrote:
A confirmation! oh well, stay tuned folks!
@ AckAckAck:
-_- dude its called Foreshadowing………………………………………But yah from what we know she IS pregnant in the suitcase,AND Airline security finds out but, dont touch that remote!
STAY TUNED FOLKS!!!!!!

Well, then, I guess it wouldn’t show on the luggage scale, then…although the reason it seemed strange is my parents weigh their luggage on a bathroom scale and compare it to what the airport scale says.
@ Landbark:
Hey it can be done! :^) What’s scary is that I moved here from Ireland in the 60’s now I’ve got a Southern Accent with an Irish lilt. 😉
Sid’s mom is adorable.
Did anyone realize that the second strip of this year (0127) is also titled ‘The Fall’? 🙂
Suitcases are surprisingly similar to traps, now that I think about it.
