Farewell – Commission by Powree
Powree has finished the commission from the digital art auction mentioned on Sandra and Woo in December. And it turned out as one of her best drawings yet (click on the image for a larger version):
I also want to give kudos to the commissioner Newenglander for requesting such an interesting piece. Here is Powree’s description:
The pictured character, Janus, was the wolf who found and cared for the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus. A temple was then built by the twins to commemorate their bond. However, the place is now in ruins after one of the twins’ death, and thus Janus sets out to seek revenge
has powree ever made any submissions to radio comix? i sincerely believe they’d be very interested in her work!
Excellent! I could look at this for hours. The lighting, the expression, the dynamics … beautiful!
Just one thing confusing me: isn’t Janus a male name … ?
that is a really good picture…worthy of being made into a Poster (or framed painting) for the wall of any art fan..
Wow… How does one commission one of those? And for how much?
Not meaning to sound like a perv or anything but dude! this art has me falling in love with wolves…from a whole new perspective….or wait perhaps not but with…………. I don’t know something, just can’t put my finger on it but I am getting that warm feeling and deep sense of yearning I get when I fall in love sigh…..

I hate the inflationary use of the word “perv(ert)” for sexual desires that have no negative effect on anybody else.
Powerful
This is absolutely gorgeous. Most of us can only dream about becoming as great at art as you.
*Stares some more at the picture*
I believe the word awesome is genuinely applicable. The full version of this inspires awe.
What does the Latin above the mural translate to?
(Also, this is now knocking Larisa off of my desktop wallpaper)
Nice! I’m kind of seeing it as a reluctant warrior look. Or as some put it, fear those who are slow to anger. For when you do push them too far…
I really dig this. The shading, color choice, background, lighting….. It all just meshes pefectly together. Very well done.
On another, semi related note, one of the twins of legend that founded rome did die. His name was Reemus. He was murdered, stoned to death; and by his own brother no less. His brothers name was Romulus, hence the name “Rome.”
I’m not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I felt like I should add it in, since anyone who didn’t know this little tidbit of information would be missing out.
A female wolf named Janus ? Sounds more like a man’s name. Jana would have been better, but well … that’s of little importance compared to the quality of the drawing.
@Professor Igneous :
You’re right. Remus was killed – I can’t remember why – by Romulus, whence the name “Rome”.
@ The garrulous French infantryman:
I think it was during an argument over the positioning of a wall.
@ MrGBH:
I did a bit of a looksee into that. Apparently Romulus was building a wall that was supposed to mark the city’s location (later called rome, not named at this time) and act as it’s defense. Reemus pretty much laughed, told Romulus that he was doing it wrong, slapped his knee a few times, then gave Romulus the finger. To top it all of Reemus prooved how Romulus was making a terrible defense by jumping over the wall, at which point Romulus got sick of his crap, punched him out, and bashed his head open with a rock.
Ahhhh, brotherly love. ♥
Something else I picked up along the way: in a humorous twist, the last emperor of Rome was named Romulus.
wow…
Such a beautiful picture! The expression on Janus’s face is lovely, I can feel the sadness radiating (sp?) from her even with her eyes closed. Could you possibly make this into wallpaper? Thank you!
Oh WOW. Hey, you ever think about writing an anthro comic? You’d be awesome.
That sounds really detailed to be just a one-shot commission. Do I hear future webcomic in the making???
This is such a great picture! Love Roman history!
