[0371] Predator-Prey Relationship
└ posted on Thursday, 26 April 2012, by Novil
Have you already read the news entry about the Sandra and Woo fanart contest 2012 (with prize money)?
- Sid: Thank you for saving my life.
- Ruth: Think nothing of it. Helping other squirrels goes without saying.
- Sid: You, uh…, have a gun?
- Ruth: Sure. I need it for hunting.
- Sid: You hunt? Other animals?? To eat them???
- Ruth: Yep. It was time to break through the ossified predator-prey relationship. That’s why I only eat certain animals.
- Sid: Such as?
- Ruth: Mostly large predators. I’m carnivorous level 5. I only eat animals standing at the top of the food chain.
THIS IS MADNESS! Squirrels straying from the path of the Prey! I will not allow it! *puts a want add in paper*
“Attention Predators everywhere! A $$100,000 Bounty for the head (or tail) of The Predator hunting Gunslinger known as Ruth!”
*Gunslinger Ruth “Ruthless”
*squirrel
*Female
*8.6-9.0 inches tall
*light Brown fur
*green Backpack
*red bandana
*armed with a single shot Derringer
Menacing eyes
“Extremely dangerous! Approach with cation and in packs!”
“Any and all information on the Location of Ruth “Ruthless” should be Sent to
Wolf in Bears Clothing (its the last thing they’d suspect)
@ WolfieMario:
No fair! I wanted to make that joke!
My last comment was a reference to the disney movie, “The Wild”
She seems pretty Ruth-less.
@ Bartimaeus:
ha ha nice one
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………..way up here————–
my level of love for this comic has gone from here-ish ————– to
with, like, this being the level for your average comic on the internet______________________
Kickass…
I believe Sid, by glancing at us, is silently telling us to RUN!
marry her!
Now That, is a good American squirrel.

I never saw The Wild, but the first part of that post put me in mind of the hunter in “Open Season.” 🙂
@ Iron Ed:
Oops… Forgot to add; I keep looking at that derringer. Someone (Hi Powree!) did her homework; that’s a really nice and accurate looking drawing!
The squirrel is the same height as a fox, huge squirrel!!
Sounds like a real keeper Sid!
@ orphandidgeridoo:
Well, yes, that’s exactly what I thought. humans are the top of the food chain.
The problem with this logic is that the higher up the food chain you are, the more environmental toxins are concentrated in your flesh. Human isn’t a healthy meal.
Squirrel of my dreams.
Then she’s on the top of the food chain… she’ll have to paradoxically eat herself, like a snake swallowing its own tail.
@ andreas:
The boy’s a European squirrel that wound up there.
Go evolution! When she kills two more animals to level up….EVOLUTION.
@ Frank:
Well, most squirrels don’t have guns.
Heck, the food chain is always just a rough sketch – cats can easily end up eating, say, a deer under the right circumstances, even though they’re not even on the same ‘branch’, not to mention that I’d normally put money on the deer.
Sid in the last panel:
*Must– Resist– The urge– To break– The 4th–…*
Since when did squirrels, become apex predators?
@ Duck:YYYEAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
@ Neospector:
If a squirrel with a gun comes to my house I’m getting my rifle out. I can tag the squirrel at long range before it gets close enough to shoot back.
@ Frank:
so that squirell is now at the top of the foodchain along with humans
“Helping other squirrels goes without saying”?!
You do realise that, at least over here in Britain, the main threat to the native red squirrels are the grey squirrels, yes?
@ Frank:
not naturally, but… SHE’S GOT A GUN!!!
Wouldn’t that kind of recoil send the little guy flying? (Hey look! a flying squirrel!)
@ Petah-Petah:
Not to mention, as a herbivore, she’d get sick the moment she tasted meat…
Seeing Ruth in the second panel patting her gun barrel reminded me of the cover for Conker: Live and Reloaded with Conker sitting astride a tank with the barrel between his legs while his sister-in-arms has her hand on said barrel.
Go check it out here.

I know Grey Squirrels will eat just about anything. Red Squirrels (i.e. Sid’s species) pretty much love the pine cones and don’t engage in the omnivorous shenanigans.
I wouldn’t know so much about american wildlife, but I doubt something explicitly called a Pine Squirrel would be able to eat flesh… much less high-level carnivore flesh… and woe betide anyone who try to eat the liver.

Hiding in a corner? You’re kidding, right? Gun or not, they’re like 6 inches tall. Just throw something at it. Toss a cloth over it and it can’t see you to shoot you, and you can just stomp on it. When we say that a gun can be an equaliser for the small and weak, we’re talking about women and children who are a little smaller, not squirrels who are the size of your hand…
@ Kate:
What if it eats a human?
@ andreas:
Sid is European and Ruth is a Pine squirrel.
Guns: A great equalizer
by only question is, how does ruth eat it? i mean its not like ruth has long canine similar to knives or sharp beak similar to fork and screwer, and how does ruth even digest mest in first plate, i mean ruth is not a bear or human who can digest meat, wont ruth just die duw to it?
So, apparently Novil was right that squirrels can eat meat. https://www.foxweather.com/earth-space/carnivorous-california-ground-squirrels-hunting-eating-voles
