EVERY RACCOON! Please! Calm down! There must be a logical expiation behind this! And I may have the answer…*ahem* butterfly has “butterfly’s” in her belly , which is rendering her to be out of focus , hence why she fell………….either that or she has no idea what she’s doing….or she is infamous for climbing….yea….um…Toodles!

*logical explanation…
Yay typo
Well…I’m sure she’s a good climber IIIF she has the right motivation……like a wolf after her or a eagle…or…anything that eat RACCOONS!…..well…in that case any Raccoon would be a great climber
WHAT THE HECK? NOOOO BUTTERFLY CAN’T LOSE HER CLIMBING ABILITY BEFORE SHE CLIMBS THE MOUNTAIN!!!
Not a lot I can say here… so, song link time! Limelight by The Alan Parsons Project.
@ KirbyScout:
She already said she has fallen 19 times so it seems like there is an underlying issue that has been there for some time.
I’m guessing that she’s either got severe stage fright or she’s from a part of the world where there aren’t trees
Yay, got number 20 out of her system, now she’s good for another 19!
@ john willow:
Now that “cannot climb trees” thing is unlikely, or at least it’s very new to her. According to a previous strip, one of Butterfly’s earlier prowesses was to have climbed “The Professor”, a tree that ranks a 9.5/10 on the Woo climbing scale. She climbed it in 2012, and is the only racoon to have climbed it on sight.
Just nerves, sure she’ll find a way to get rid of them before the main event.
Haha, Woo’s got some pretty manly chest hair going on!
Pretty much her anxiety and fear destroyed her confidence. Maybe Woo and Lily can help her relax?
Is it jealousy there???
@ Blake:
Uh. Not to state the obvious, but raccoons are covered in fur.
@ Kaigakoi:
It seems this is more accurate than you might have meant it She’s clearly afraid over the difficulty and knowing she’s not perfect. Put simply, she’s freaking right the heck out, and it’s affecting everything she does. I’ve seen it. It’s not pretty. Well, it is here, because even money says it will end up with something homourous.
More freakout, please!
I’m starting to wonder if there’s something -physical- wrong with Butterfly; like maybe an inner ear problem affecting her balance, or something with her eyes. I’m sure there are other possibilities that I don’t recall.
Orrr… Does Lily think Woo is making Butterfly nervous? Or perhaps she’s seen something Woo (and I) have not noticed?
Feeling sorry for Butterfly on general principles; but, if this isn’t taken care of she could get -seriously- hurt (or worse) climbing the mountain! (And Whatsizname the Promoter is taking this way too lightly!!)
Lol if Butterfly’s bipolar and her Other side is the climber. Would explain the nerves too.
I’m pretty sure it has little to do with any physical defects and alter egos – it’s most likely to be an acrophobia, the fear of heights, driven even further by a stage fright. The reason for acrophobia is most likely to be the eagle – every time it has to catch her, it’s a russian roulette, and that fact must have been pretty hard imprinted in her mind, that any fall may be her last one, which made her afraid to fall – and to climb, even this little tree. She’s just too afraid to think straight, or for a physical activity, and that’s just it
Am I alone in thinking that her touted climbing skill may have all been made up, propaganda by her managers and such?
Am I missing something?
@ CountAile:
I’m thinking the same thing. Maybe something in her past… cue flashback.
Kaigakoi wrote:
The darn butterflies! I keep telling people, they aren’t made of butter, but they keep eating them anyway!
@ CountAile:
It could potentially also be agoraphobia where one fears situations perceived as uncomfortable or dangerous and where embarrassment in such a situation can worsen the fear (all of those falls for instance), and it is classed as an anxiety disorder. If that is the case, at this point she would be connecting climbing and falling with embarrassment and danger so something like even climbing a tree could trigger anxiety.
Wow, she IS nervous. And this just now didn’t make it any better )=

Like, I don’t know, a pregnancy for example?
Don’t know why, but that was my first thought upon reading today’s comic.
@Falcon: Well, she’s been said to have climbed at least one difficult route with others watching. So unless she’s got a perfect double, it can’t all be a hoax.
@ Landbark:
@ Landbark:
Maybe it’s all just a conspiracy and butterfly is actually a really crappy climber.
@ Neospector:
We must put a stop to their ways….maybe if we ….OH! bring in the full fat butterflies!
Maybe butterfly is afraid of heights but she is afraid of eagles and disappointing all her fans more.
For a Minute I thought she broke the tree.
Lily seems to be much more observant than Woo…
Performance anxiety: not just a male problem

Hardly. They’ve both spotted something is wrong, they’re just taking it differently. Woo is taking the direct route, asking Butterfly about it, while Lily seems to have some form of sneaky plot in mind.
