- Richard: Hitomi is so cute. Yukiya is one lucky guy.
- Hitomi: Nani?!
- Hitomi: Sōdesu ka…

He isn’t free it seems…
Indeed. Or he is not into girls… But he has the right spirit, not being scared away by the tiger attack. 🙂
So, Novil is still playing with the shippers! 🙂
Nani?! = What?!
So desu ka = that’s how it is.

Or, he’s a dog-boy, the very antithesis of her. It could be any number of things.
@ Hegel Marx:
Thank you for the translation.
@ Trimutius:
I’m guessing that he’s either too busy at work to bother with a relationship and/or only wants someone who’s a maid 24/7.
Oh no… He’s gay.
Well, she’s taking it well anyway.
Not yelling at him, not running away screaming.
The good ship Richomi is preparing to leave port again!
“So hitomi, what did he say”
“He ‘s more interested in you then me.”
Sou desu ka… ._.
He doesn’t have to be gay or in a relationship. Maybe he just isn’t interested in her.
@ Grijan:
true… but that nani still sounds (imo) too surprised for a single “not interested”
@ Marteri:
The ship revealed itself to be actually a submarine

Richard is [possibly] interested in Hitomi, who is [definitely] interested in Yukiya, who is [possibly] interested in Richard… Now THAT’s a love triangle.
Sooo … a few possibilities …
a) He’s married;
b) he’s gay …
c) he hates maids …
d) he hates catgirls …
e) any two of the first four …
f) any three of the first four …
g) all of the above.
@ Mysterious Dark Lord v3.2:
I doubt someone that hates maids would be a regular customer at a maid café.
He gay. Or taken. Probably gay.
Nick/Tyrong wrote:
Probably taken. I think he likes her, just not as much as his current love interest.
@ Ravyn:
Actually much like dogs and cats dog-boys and cat-girls could get along. Depends on many factors.
He’s a regular at a cat maid cafe. I don’t think he has a problem with either of those attributes.
For a proper whiplash effect on the readers (and Richard) Yukiya is about to leave to study/work overseas, and doesn’t think a long distance relationship will work. 😉
(I’m not into shipping, whether in fiction or RL, but I like a plot tangle as much as anyone!)
Y’know, Ollie, ya pulled a fast one on us. Frankly, it mayn’t be that Yuki’s gay or even married; it mayn’t be that he does or doesn’t think Tomi’s cute but simply put: Yuke’s just not interested in her.
Well played storyline, Oll….but does that mean, Herr Knorzer, that the story is, as one just put it in the previous panel, a sort of “How I Met Your Mother” storyline.
🤨Hmmmmmm…….🤔
….hhhmmmmmm……..🤔
Can’t wait for more.

My personal view is that Tomi’d make a great mom for Sandy & Woo & his family. I’d like to see this story develop…
Jim
@ Grijan:
That would not justify the _surprised_ “What?” in the second panel. The surprise implies that what he said was quite unexpected, a simple lack of interest would be sad, but not so much surprising.
It’s more likely he’s moving, or is on some sort of long business assignment. Such is Japan.
Geez, like half the comments are “he’s gay.” Too much automatically gay, not enough admitting you’d have to be gay to pass up a find like Hitomi. No, I don’t think it likely that Richard is going to end up with her.
@ HKMaly:
I bet more on gay. It would not be so surprising that he is taken, it must be something more unexpected like he is gay or he did some vow of abstinence or something.
I’m voting for dog/wolf/mouse some other incompatible “spirit animal”.
Gay would be too mainstream by now.
He’s probably more into dog-Girls and Hitomi would have to adapt.
It’s probably something silly like that. Novil rarely throws a stright ball.
Because fools for love near April Fools Day fools the shippers.
Whatever it is, she’s pretty surprised.
And it’s not good news.
Bets?
Gay?
In a relation Ship?
Just not interested?
Actually a girl who is not into girls?
2 Kids in a trenchcoat?
Think she is insane?
A hero from another dimension who doesn’t have time for dating?
a Robot?
Just not interested?

He said: ´”Omae wa mou shindeiru”
@ Akaryo:
“You are already dead.” from “Fist of the North Star,” where After hitting bad guys on specific pressure points, protagonist Kenshiro lets them know: “Omae wa mou shindeiru,” which means “You are already dead.” It has become somewhat of a meme, and I think that is how Yukiya used it referring to himself in the situation he was in…
I bet on another plot twist on next strip. There is a problem but it will be salvageable. For example, he could be leaving for overseas, but Hitomi can still manage to start a relation with him – by making it a distance one or by leaving with him.
Novil likes playing with shippers and with readers.
Oh no, he’s secretly a crab person!
…I mean he’s not into her!
Sorry, ladies, he’s taken.
Aww, poor Hitomi

If he hates catgirls he wasn’t worth the effort to begin with.
He is a ghost from a different dimension…
Given that this is still a comedy webcomic, I’m guessing that it’s going to turn out that she asked him who he ships in One Piece and he said Luffy/Robin or something while she prefers Luffy/Nami or something.
Disappointed that not one of y’all has posited that Yukiya might be ace. Or generally aromantic. I feel that’s equally viable in this situation (and would also warrant surprise from our relatively naive maid)
@ Brent Rider:
More accurately translates to “You are already dying”, but all the other context points are accurate.
He’s moving to the same town where Sandra lives?
Turns out he likes pineapple on his pizza.
@ Kazuma Taichi:
I don’t think being gay OR ace would be odd enough for her reaction. “I have a fatal disease” might account for the tears (and the fact that she’s still sitting at the table, eating cake). I’m still betting on “I’m leaving Japan/Earth/this dimension/life tomorrow.” Not enough time for even a whirlwind romance.
If it’s a simple move to another country, Novil can keep stringing us along, because then Richard falls into the same category. Richard can try to encourage her to pursue a long distance relationship with Yukiya, and simultaneously (innocently) be arguing in favor of his own eligibility. Loads of comic potential. 🙂
Huh, looks like there’s still a chance at the Sandra’s New Mom Theory.
He is actually a magical girl.
