When I put “netorare” into google translate I get cuckold, not the shortened form cuck. Even searching up “英語で寝取られを言う方法”, the first answer is cuckold, not cuck.

because the shortened form is slang used primarily by a mix of ultra-right wing conservative groups and by groups like Incels. it is not an official part of any dictionary so translation services will not use the shortened form.

It dates back to at least the 1400’s with John Lyndgate’s ‘Fall of Princess’ (Wikipedia would have you believe it appears in ‘the Owl and the Nightengale’, but this is a falsehood. It appears as a particular translation of that poem, not the word itself)

Trust me, “cuck” is short for “cuckold” and it’s far from being a new term. It’s been in use to varying degrees since before Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales” (which contains a couple of uses of the term) and even Boccaccio’s “the Decameron” (where Chaucer got much of his inspiration for his more famous work from).
It’s just come back into the more common vernacular as a slang term. Most often it’s used as an insult by wannabe “Alpha Males” who simply want to insult another man as being weak. (Often not actually even knowing what the term means, just following the popular usage.) It’s been overused so much like a number of other terms that actually had a directed and deliberate application have these days that it’s virtually lost all meaning other than to vaguely be applied as an insult with a general meaning. (E.g., Jos calling Sam a “cuck” online in a Facebook debate trying to use an Ad Hominem attack to make him look weak and therefore not worth paying attention to because Joe can’t actually counter Sam’s argument.)

Amazing, isn’t it? How one word can cause a whole fandom to explode?
Remember when this comic was about a little girl and her talking raccoon, and not a pathetic and bizarre attempt to parody an obscure Japanese comic? And the author didn’t try to use words that have no meaning relevant to the plot?
lit – past tense of light, or (slang) intoxicated
dank – moist
cuck – (obsolete) to punish using by a cucking stool (a device that dunks a person in water)
If “cuck” was supposed to be short for “cuckold”, it still doesn’t make sense. It is not possible for Richard to be a cuckold because he is a widower and has no significant other. Maybe these words have a different meaning in German?
I may have to start checking for updates every couple of months, in the hope that the comic will become interesting and/or funny again by then. Recent updates have been very disappointing.
Yeah, it looked like “click” to me on the first read too.
And to think – stepping aside to let someone you had feelings for pursue someone else was once considered one of the purest romantic gestures.
