Novil, don’t TELL the newbies the golem is a test. Let them find out like WE did.
This scenario suffers from the same issue that J. K. Rowling had with the Sorting Hat in her first Harry Potter book. She made it a surprise to all the new students. But as her latter books made clear, such a big deal was well known by all incoming students. You can’t keep such a thing a secret. People talk. The word gets out. It becomes common knowledge.
In this case, the loose golem was part of the test. Even if the school arranged for a random challenge every year, word will have gotten out. Everyone would be wondering what the Surprise Test would be. They would all be expecting it and be watching for it.
