He killed all of them? Well, I guess he didn’t do as much running as they did.

Also, Gradus took them by surprise. And was smart enough to kill first the two armed men (I don’t see any weapon on the 3rd one, maybe there is some but not drawn).
We can add that those baddies thought they had won, and had lowered their guard.
All of that (plus the running) made them more vulnerable.
They also might be less talented than Gradus, because you don’t need the top best archer and mage for this dirty work, just people with absolutely no moral sense (killing two weaponless journalists and a child!).
