My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est:The protection spell shown in the second panel wasn’t cast by Lilith, it was cast by Xarlaxe! But Lilith managed to turn around fast enough so that the spell wasn’t necessary.

That’s a protection spell? It’s a blue disk. For all we know that’s something the sword can do. For all we know that’s something the ground can do. Glowing magical effects are happening all over.

I always assumed it was magical feedback from an enchantment on the sword (I think Ilias has a crystal in his pommel, for example). The idea being if you hit someone with your sword, it deals even more damage, but if you strike a solid object head-on the impact will end up hurting you.
I would say that guessing this was done be Xarlaxe was VERY hard.

A enchantment like that would make the sword entirely useless, as a sword hits solid armor 99% of the time and slices through meat in only 1% of the cases. In the first case the sword would always harm the user and in the last case the enchantment would not be necessary in the first place.
I would never have guessed that it was cast by Xarlaxe, as Lilith would easily be capable to do something like that considering her career as a mage..

Not quite. The ground is immobile, but a person wearing armor is not.

A suit of armor would be indistinguishable to it from the ground. Mobility would have nothing to do with it.
Either way, in combat, it’s still entirely possible to hit a wall, floor, pillar, etc instead of your target, so as mentioned, such a magical affect would be an unwanted one.

Yeah, I always assumed that was Lilith there. Would’ve been a great defensive move to slow them down.
