So what’s the idea here? The magical entrapment is clearly turning her around… but is her decision to keep moving, if slightly, away from Oakdale stressing what the illusion is capable of? Has she moved almost to the edge of it, and thus the magic becomes less convincing?

She might be “mostly” deaf but not 100% deaf. She can’t hear regular forest noises because they are nor very loud noises. But someone shouting, it’s loud enough.
Or there could be some kind of telepathic-magic-blahblah going on.
