My comment for this page from Gaia: sic mundus creatus est:I was unsure how to depict the Great Tree, but a small new tree growing out of the massive stump was probably the best option. The last panel shows that many elves don’t support Viviana and Lilith as enthusiastically as almost all humans and dragons. As long as you supported the construction of his tower, you lived a good and easy life in Ysdar under Eldor.

The problem with relying on author’s notes is that it’s sometimes information that should be in the book/comic. But that would break the no-speech run they have going. Logically, Eldor would have had to have children. At least they arn’t causing trouble for the heroes. Nobody’s even trying to shoot Alyssia.
For the brief amount of time that’s passed, the tree seems to be growing fast.
We don’t know much about elves, their reproductive cycle, and their life in general (how many years before becoming an adult?). They live a very long life, and they don’t seem to have many children (otherwise they would suffer from overpopulation), so they either are not very fertile, or they have full control over their fertility (which would make sense, I’m pretty sure the in this universe humans can avoid a pregnancy if they don’t want it).
Maybe they have some sort of menopause/andropause or elfopause (?) when they stop being fertile after a certain age, even though they remain young in appearance?
Whatever the reason, Eldor don’t seem the kind who wants to raise children, since a whole part of his life had been dedicated to his projet with Bhaal. Maybe he had one or two before that, but then that was so long ago that his children lived their lives independantly (and had nothing to do with his project).
@ Vicious Sand:
It’s the tree of life, a special magic tree. Also a real world tree would regrow round the edges from under the bark, not from the middle.
I remember there was a poll as to what the Great Tree would look like! Many people suggested the illusion of the former Great Tree over the stump, some did the small tree growing in its place, ranging from real-seedling-sized to almost but not quite as large as the original. I think there was also a suggestion of Lili magicking it back to as it used to be, but that may have been too cheap.

Anyway the tree in the middle looks good and magical – and the ground zero-ish “hologram” of the former tree works well too, Very intuitive.
