A Sky Full of Stars 039

  • Julius: I’ve never seen such a beautiful blue!
  • Julius: How did you find this place?
  • Scarlet: I was looking for stuff to sell.
  • Julius: Did you find anything?
  • Scarlet: Only some copper plates.
  • Scarlet: I’d love to go on a treasure hunt in the Amber Monolith one day. There are still sections no one has entered since the fall of Arcadia.
  • Julius: That’s very dangerous, though.
  • Scarlet: That’s true. But if I fall, you’ll be there to catch me, won’t you?
  • Julius: Uhhh…
  • Julius: Yes, of course!
  • Scarlet: Mhmm.

  1. Awww… So cute! 😘

  2. I don’t know what the Amber Monolith is, or who made it, but there’s sure to be some very old bodies in there. Scarlet’s got ambition. It’s good to have a goal when escaping in the middle of the night.
Julius recognizes the cue and slides in with the save. Good for him. 🙂

  3. Love it, man.

  4. I love the lore of this world.

  5. Trantor haben immer Feuer!

Ah – Copper plates -> Copper (II) Hydroxide -> Blue tinted water.
    😉

    1. Copper hydroxide is insoluble, though. When I first saw the pool, I thought it was probably highly acidic, and that the color would be due to highly soluble copper sulfate, which would cast a different light, shall we say, on the idea of getting into it. But real-world chemistry in a science fantasy webcomic, and all that.

Insoluble? Google “copper ii hydroxide solution” and see for yourself.

        1. nah, its an old nuke plant spent fuel pool… now it’s glowy!

  6. This is a beautiful page. Love how the connection between these two is developing.

  7. “I’ve never seen such a beautiful blue!”
“Me neither. Just don’t try to drink it — it looks like water, but it’s actually a mix of dishwasher detergent, windshield wiper fluid, and Aperture Science repulsion gel.”

  8. In the LL panel, Scarlet looks _amazingly_ like her mother.

  9. The fall of Arcadia was already mentioned several times; apparently, it was the collapse of Lavarel civilization capability to maintain high technology?

    1. Arcadia does sound hopeful/legendary/spacey enough for someone to name a new colony’s founding civilization. Perhaps that’s the first settlers fresh off the spaceship.

  10. boy , that i s a flag of some kind (or an early declaration ) , you better be there to catch her

    1. I question the idea that he will actually go into dangerous ruins. That said, it was the right thing to say in a romantic sense, as long as Scarlet doesn’t take the statement too seriously.

      1. we all know that this will probably lead to a situation where he will need to literally catch her, let hope Julius will be ready for the task

  11. It’s just the Cherenkov radiation, that’s why it’s so nice and warm in here
