A Sky Full of Stars 063

  • Tibor: Now you’re being a bit unfair.
  • Scarlet: We still don’t know what’s behind the door in the Valley of the Guardians! It must be something important!
  • Tibor: A lot of people have tried to defeat the Arcadian golems!
  • Scarlet: Half-baked attempts by amateurs!
  • Scarlet: … This planet holds deep, dark secrets.
  • Scarlet: Even the lies in the history books of old have long been forgotten.
  • Scarlet: Time cloaks this world like a thick layer of ice. But I am the fire girl!
  • Tibor: Shouldn’t we concentrate on the Machine first?
  • Scarlet: You think that thing has an “On” switch?

  1. “I am the fire girl”, huh? Channeling her inner Larissa? That definitely got a chuckle out of me.

    1. Actually, I thought Annie in Gunnerkrigg Court had a patent on that.,

      1. Jaya Ballard would want to challenge that patent with prior art.

  2. This sounds like the voice-over at the start of a fantasy adventure movie. “This planet holds deep, dark secrets. Even the lies in the history books of old have long been forgotten. Time cloaks this world like a thick layer of ice… Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand…”

  3. If they can’t defeat some golems, then they aren’t using enough explosives. Ropes and glue can attach anything, briefly.
As for the Machine, at least they haven’t forgotten it. They’re just headed in the wrong direction.

    1. I got the impression that the golems are not just standing idle and would kill people who try to attach explosives to them. I’m not sure there even are explosives, the military doesn’t seem to employ explosion propelled artillery.

      1. Frankly, attaching explosives seems like sidestep. What you need is to hit them with those explosives, they don’t need to stay attached. But yes, we didn’t saw any artillery yet.

  4. She’s sassy, I like her!

    1. The smoke coming out of her ears in Monday’s last two panels made her especially cute.

  5. man the art is so great, just the detailwork of their clothes. Look at the scarf and hat, they’re so fluffy!

    1. But I’m still curious about how a fox puts on pants, with that tail. 🤔

      1. An extra button on the back to close up the pants!

  6. I gave it to Scarlet the former strip and in this strip I have to give it a bit to both. They may have to do some digging in ruins to find clues for the machine. On the other hand, they can not just hit ruins arbitrarily, they need some some plan, if they hit a ruin they have to have some reason to think that one is more likely than others to yield something useful. Heck, the leads they have right now that I can think of is Scarlet’s cellar and the inspiration behind Abel’s book.

  7. I bet that when Scarlet does finally find the Machine of Eternal Summer, there’s going to be a big ON/OFF switch on it, currently set to OFF.
