This is a really endearing way to add a substory. It feels like this might be a chapter-long one, but too soon to be sure. I would really enjoy a big background story to explore the lore of this world in a fairy tale kind of way. 🙂

it’s the story from the very start of the comic, the one her mom reads to her :’) Elodie is the one who discovers the Machine of Eternal Summer in the story, so bittersweet

Yes, that book is the only thing Scarlet saved from her parents’ home. She had it when the Grondar soldiers came (MOES, #26 onwards to SFOS #004). Her mother read her the fairy tale from that book at the very beginning, MOES #1-2, a tale in which Elodie discovers The Machine.

We’re doubling back a bit to the very beginning. I wonder if it will contain anything that is not just exciting for a child, but interesting for us readers as well. It’s a good time to reread the first two pages.
Hopefully she will recover somewhat. While she’s not going to just shrug of the death of her boyfriend, she can lose the idea that someone is conspiring against her.

I had wondered how the story would move without either a wall of text or slowing down to freefall time. Reading her the story of Princess Elodine is a nice approach, not only because of the callback to the first pages but also because that story was a large part in starting her relation with Julius.
Also: Are those energy crystals in the city? If yes, what are they powering with them. Or maybe that is just ho Laravellians imagine the distant past when energy availability was not a problem. The machine was also depicted with crystals all around but those were green. Even further – and I realized when checking back – did Scarlet close the door to the machine when she ran for her mother? If not the Grondians probably discovered it and either started to research or loot it, potentially damaging it further.
