You’re right it was risky but Iona wouldn’t have realised that. Nobody else would’ve caught her pause and change of mind but Scarlet is like that. But I also think Scarlet is not the sort of person to get angry with someone genuinely trying to be kind. When she’s shown anger before, it’s been against a criminal, or herself or the injustices in the world, not at a decent individual. Sure, she’s snapped at Tibor out of frustration but not true anger.
I think she’s finally found some people her own age she can connect with, at least a little. After all those she lost, I don’t think (I sure hope not!) that Novil is going to kill them off too. Scarlet’s character and personality has been developed enough that further death/loss would be pointless and cruel.

There’s still a little risk she’ll get physically hurt by the soccer game though. I’m not sure if that would help the story. I think it would only hurt.

I agree, Scarlet getting hurt would not advance the story. Her not being able to last in a game of stamina may provide proof to her she HAS been starving herself, something she denied earlier.

Also, getting physically tired is likely to make her feeling hunger more than when just sitting or lying.

From the very beginning, she was aware that physical strength would be important for her task. She was doing push-ups when she was six years old (SFOS 015). She needs to recover physically.
She also concluded early on that arrogance was her fatal flaw (SFOS 009). I hope we see her like that again! 👿 (Like with Gale, SFOS 072)
