Oh Tibor. Never say those words. Like never say those words. You might as well yell out “Everything’s going to be fine from now on.” Or “At least it’s not raining.”
If it’s a colony world, there may have been a time period where they got to install a weather modification network. Now _that’s_ a crazy AI you can have fun with. “Why is it snowing alphabet soup?”
I could imagine that solar mirrors would put the hot springs in unusual locations.
Nice forest art. It looks like Tibor might have saved Scarlet. But we all know he was just trying to steal her book. There’s no money in stealing an orphaned child.
There’s also the concept of “No such thing as a free lunch”. But the cook-fire would only give away the location to the rest of the army troops. They called dibs on Scarlet first.
If Tibor thinks he’s shaken them off, that’s a good time to slow down from run to still moving quickly. The area the soldiers have to search goes up exponentially with the distance Tibor travels. Either way, impressive of Tibor to seemingly outrun soldiers while carrying a child.
Actually, the area goes up with the distance Tibor MIGHT’ve traveled. The soldiers need to search from the moment they lost him from sight, because they don’t know if he didn’t hide somewhere and try to let them pass and then go back. But at the same time, they need to take into account possibility he’s running at maximal speed directly to enemy unit they don’t know about.
And there are just few soldiers, not enough to form line.
In short, the soldiers are in quite bad situation actually and might give up rather quickly and try to pursue their original objective instead.
For practical purposes, the soldiers are, as you said, not going to form a line and search. They have to settle with a quicker search and then probably give up soon. From Tibor’s perspective, the chances of him being caught by them will reduce with distance traveled squared. It is true however that in theory, the soldiers would have to search an area that depends on possible distance traveled squared. In practice however, Tibor has to think of distance traveled.
It’s too early to tell whether the story is good or not, but the writing is generally good with some ups and downs. I think this webcomic peaked at strip 10 and was at its lowest at 28-29. Others may have their own views on what are their favorites and least favorites. My suspision however is that Novil’s understanding of violence is rather lacking (which granted does have some positive implications) which results in cracks showing whenever he depicts it.

Hey, rain would actually help them shake the pursuers!

Why shouldn’t he say this?
I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Just wanted to say (in contrast to the nit-pickers), I’m loving the story so far.

Yeah, same. There are always the nitpicky people, and their voice is usually loudest just because content people don’t typically speak up.

I’ll speak up then! I am happy with this story and enjoy reading every update!
