The Webcomic Hunger Games: The Reaping

“What do you think of this year’s reaping, Caesar?”
“This is certainly an interesting roundup with all these characters from some of the best webcomics, neatly arranged by their publication date. No matter the outcome, the webcomic world won’t recover for many years from this year’s edition of the Hunger Games!”
“Who are the favorites in your opinion?”
“Well, Claudius, one thing is clear. Lilith Caillean would mop the floor with all the other tributes if the use of magic were allowed; even Duane Adelier doesn’t seem to be a match for her. But since the use of magic is punishable by death, the question which needs to be answered rather is the following: ‘Who has the right attitude to brutally kill the other characters without even batting an eye?’ And the answer to that can only be: Sette Frummagem, representing District 9!”
“So Sette is your favorite?”
“Yes,… but you never know. A lot of things can happen in the arena. We’ve seen it year after year after year. Take Marigold Heavenly Nostrils – after her sex change – for example. Nobody who’s read Phoebe and her Unicorn would ever believe he could even harm a butterfly. But when it comes to the crunch, I have no doubt he’d brutally stab cute little Laurie to death with his super sharp horn. And with Indefinite Hiatus from District 6 we also have a sleeper agent we mustn’t overlook!”
“Do you have anybody else on your list?”
“I’m really excited to see how Rocky Rickaby and Frank, the mentally most deranged characters, will do in the arena. Maybe they’ll be the first to go, maybe they’ll be the last men standing.”
“Thank you very much for your assessment, Caesar. I say: ‘Let the Games begin, and may the odds be ever in your favor!’”
“Indefinite Hiatus surely did’t make it long, Caesar. But I believe our spectators are actually very happy about her timely death. I don’t think there’s a single soul out there in the districts who was rooting for her.”
“You’re totally right, Claudius. Marigold, on the other hand, will certainly be dearly missed by many spectators. Now, I hope you’re as excited about the days to come as we are. So tune in tomorrow to see the rest of the first day of this year’s Hunger Games!”
As much as I love S&W. Frank and Guy are murderous and psychopathic enough to take down everyone.
Yay, the Indefinite Hiatus is dead. If only it was true. 🙁
Last post from Edmund Finney’s Quest to Find the Meaning of Life dates to June 18, 2014.
Frank & Guy, my thoughts exactly
Hmm… How exactly does this work, are things decided?
If Dante from Brainslug was in this thing, he would have already killed everybody else.
@ Lukkai:
It’s random. Google “Hunger games simulator” and you can try it yourself!
HOLY CRAP! Count Your Sheep is updating again! Thank you SO much for this, I loved that comic. Last update was back in 2011, so I had written it off.
Uh-uh, you did NOT just insult Duane’s wright abilities. He will eat everybody.
Literally.
He’s a zombie.
Woo begs for Lilith to kill him. She refuses, keeping Woo alive.
Woo : “Please kill me. I just want to keep Sandra alive even if that means I have to sacrifice myself.” (Peeta mode : On)
Lilith : “No I won’t. If I kill you now that means Novil will lose a comical character and force me to do something silly as your replacement.”
Woo : ………
Lilith was definitely my first choice…and then I saw Frank. No contest.
Hey wait a minute! Sandra and Woo AND Gaia!? You have two horses running the same race!
Disregarding the fact that the process is random…
With magic banned, Lilith and Duane go from completely outclassing everyone else to being useless (Lilith) and still scary but not unbeatable (Duane, he IS still a zombie…). Fairly sure Frank should be an easy favorite though. Not only is he a super genius capable of designing all sorts of murder weapons, he’s also a completely amoral psychopath.
Alas, don’t know most of the entries. Would have been most amused to find Schlock on the field (see Schlock Mercenary); hide enough barrels of Ovalkwik about the field and it might even be semi-fair. 🙂
wait, did ozzy get hit by sette, sette steals bread, and then team up?
@ DHGM:
The author of Marigold Heavenly Nostrils also did Ozy and Millie many, many years ago, so she has two going, as well.
From the little we have seen of Lilith (like an entire webcomic) she needs no weapons to murder everyone if she chooses…but under normal circumstances she is to kind to do that.
Damn it! District 4 would’ve had a better chance with Larissa as the female tribute! Although if district 4 were to build a team, Sandra is definitely a better pick. Not to mention I bet we’ve all seen how cruel and deadly Sandra the Empress of Northia could be.
*strokes none given beard*

Yeah, if this were anything but randomly determined, hitting guy on the nose would merely result in death, no matter if you broke her nose or not. Not only would they kill most of the competition (and probably allow other psychopaths with sadistic tendencies to join them, given the comic) but they would toy with people while doing so. *We’ve already seen Frank handle zombies, although his experiments get lose they never actually hurt him… so he can probably handle just about anything.*
Outside the random factor, I would expect there to be ~4 people left, representing torment of the less cool… with the whole district thing completely forgotten. Everyone else would merely be disposable clone test subjects.
Is there some sort of random event generator that decides what happens, because everything about this seems random and arbitrary

Well, if you ask me, the author of Ozy and Millie also did Heavenly Nostrils years later.
Go team Millie!

How about Cloud as the male tribute?
Wait, Cloud is probably the kind of tribute that volunteers at 18 😀
