You just can’t escape the time jannies…

Well…
That’s not ominous or anything….
What’s Hitomi doing in the first panel?
If you hurt Hitomi I’m gonna be sad.
That looks like someone is about to die. But I’m holding out hope because I have no idea what a time jannie is.
@ Techno Gray:
It’s a reference to FF7 Remake. They’re the Dementor looking things everyone’s on about, apparently some sort of entity that shows up whenever the timeline gets screwy. Why the term is showing up as an actual being in a comic like Sandra and Woo, I have no idea. Looks like we might need Yuna to explain some things soon…
Novil: Alright guys, I’m not going to make any more FFVIIR references
Also Novil:
It’s time to finish this storline and get back to FFVIIR
The first panel is giving me the creeps. I mean, she looks there like she’s 12. Anyway, the last panel gives me hope this arc will end very soon.
@ Techno Gray:
No ones going to die, I‘m pretty sure this just means that Richards time in Japan is coming to an end.
Let’s see how this all plays out.
Breja wrote:
Novil could cure cancer IRL in this arc and you would still be whining so it doesn’t surprise me. You are inventing reasons to be upset and contribute nothing with your ever-present negativity.
Are they in a crowded place, with other people, in panel 2?? Yeah, very realistic. When does this arc take place, 2019?
@ Tyler:
In that case, I am reminded of The Adjustment Bureau.
Time to go home, Richard…
Hourglass guy? And whose it is?
so someone or something involving Richard and Hitomi is short on time.
so many ways this could go, guessing it ends in a tragedy though. maybe with Richard and/or Hitomi alone, and maybe one of them dead.
1. Richard gets his new passport and ID mailed to him so he can finally go home, and has to say goodbye to Hitomi. in saying goodbye he realizes he has developed feelings for her.
1a. does he say goodbye and they drift apart after he returns home?
1b. Does he confess his feelings, and ask her to leave japan and marry him?
1ba. Hitomi says yes and leaves japan, Richard gets a new wife, and Sandra gets a new mom.
1bb. Hitomi says no and Richard has his heart broken just before leaving on the plane.
1bba. Hitomi later changes her mind and leaves japan to find Richard and marry him. after the wedding, Sandra gets to know her new mother, and they become a happy family for a while
1bbaa. months later the happy family is broken by the sudden death of Richard.
1bbab. months later the happy family is broken by the sudden death of Hitomi.
2. Hitomi dies in a car accident, and Richard barely has time to attend the funeral before
3. Richard confesses his feelings to Hitomi, Hitomi says yes, they get married
3a. after the wedding, just before leaving japan, Richard dies in a car accident, Hitomi leaves Japan to take care of Sandra her new daughter.
3b. after the wedding, Richard and Hitomi leave japan, Sandra gets to know her new mother, and they become a happy family for a while
3ba. months later the happy family is broken by the sudden death of Richard.
3bb. months later the happy family is broken by the sudden death of Hitomi.
3. Hitomi’s family gets sick, or dies in an accident of some kind. Hitomi is comforted by Richard, they fall in love, get married, and eventually leave japan, RIchard gets a new Wife, Sandra gets a new mom, and Hitomi gets a new family, and starts a Maid cafe, with the life insurance money from her family.
Finally, a strip not about ff7. The original was on sale on xbox live so I picked it up. Um… somebody tells me the gameplay gets better. Because so far for every good thing the game has done it’s done five to annoy the crap out of me. So far, as of being captured in Shinra, it is NOT a good game, and I am amazed that anyone ever thought it was. Story isn’t bad so far, but Barret is almost totally unlikable, and Cloud is… boring as hell. Boring, and a wannabe tough guy. And don’t get me started on those awful “maps”. Just… somebody tell me this gets better, and that I’ll end up seeing why ANYBODY would like it. Because so far, there were better games released before, AND at the time. I also picked up 8 and 9. Hoping for better from those…. Hopefully no more of those atrocious timing puzzles.
I mean, Novil the best part of the original game were the characters. PLEASE tell me they get better, because Aries, and MAYBE Red 13 (He’s not been around very long right now) are the only likable people. Barret is an ass, and, well, I already spoke about boring assed Cloud.
Doom!
Saw the last panel and my first thought was the Time Card from Cardcaptor Sakura.
*Throws specialty chocolates at the Auditor.
That first panel kinda looks like cosplay
@ ValdVin:
Looks to be Teamlab Borderless at the Mori Building Digital Art Museum.
@ValdVin Looks like she’s in front of a fountain or artificial waterfall.
@Breja You already know she has a job so she’s definitely not 12. Any discomfort you’re feeling is entirely self-inflicted.

There’s been a lot of reports of Japanese people ignoring social-distancing recommendations, at least in the big cities. So, sadly, that actually is realistic.
>Time Jannies
Oh Novil you.
I’ll have you know, Richard hasn’t suffered Sephi flashes yet.
I can’t say for certain … but in the 2nd panel, it looks as though Hitomi and Richard are at a Baby Metal concert. Just what it looks like …
Ah, finally. We get to know what the succubus knows.
Byteflush wrote:
Realism??? You expect RL realism in a universe with talking raccoons and middle school atomic reactor experiments??? Unreal!
@ Kuraimizu:
How can I possibly add to any of that?
Maybe Sandra can go visit Japan?
Not to be the stick in the mud, but would I be the only one feeling uncomfortable if a high school girl kept hanging around a middle-aged man all date-like this?

But she’s not, she’s a grown woman. I’m not sure if her age has been mentioned but I believe that she’s 30 plus.
And then he remembered that he actually had a daughter with whom he has not been in contact with for week.
Interestingly Sandra didn’t much care either. She was just boinking Cloud while at it. 😀
@ Nick/Tyrong:
Ever tried Pong? It’s sure to have all the flash, graphics, excellent sound design, highly developed plot, all the PC characters you could ever want and even Michael Bay extending a 3D hand to you to congratulate you on purchasing the game.
Yeah. It might not be up to the speed today, but back then… It was a work of art. And it still is. But like old timey music… Some people just prefer that newfangled rock&poll that that Pelvis-guy keeps tooting out. Then somebody showed me some of that Gogo-Lady or something. I much prefer my Gregorian Chants, thank you so much.
All in all… Being spoiled and not understanding the value of things past is not the games fault. 😀

A new dynamic with Hitomi would be interesting, how does Sandra react?
Does Hitomi cotton onto Woo or not?
Larissa?
And does Hitomi like Cloud?
So many questions, so many possibilities, here’s hoping Novil explores them.

It actually says more about you if you’re making up rubbish in order to satisfy your own creepy opinion. Something tells me you actually want her to look 12 but are attempting to hide your tastes with fake outrage…

The whole bloody point about those types of games is seeing characters grow out of their starting beliefs and attitudes, which is done over a game that takes 40-60 hours of playing. That you’ve simply given up on it after only a few hours, means either that you’re too judgemental to see how characters can actually change, or that maybe those games aren’t really for you and you should stop commenting on them…Nick/Tyrong wrote:
The whole point about those types of games is that characters actually change due to events forcing them to change what they previously thought about the world. If you’re simply giving up on the game before you’ve even left Midgard and not even bothered to find out about how Cloud’s entire life isn’t what it actually is or how Barrett actually lost his arm, which you find out during 50-60 hours of playing, then either you are simply so shallow that you judge people completely on first appearances, or maybe these types of games just simply aren’t for you and that you maybe should stop making naive opinions about them…
Also, if you thought Cloud was boring, I don’t know how the hell you’re going to deal with Squall in FF8 -_-
Well, at least the hourglass guy doesn’t look like the Grim Reaper – too fleshy, not boney enough.
@ Kuraimizu:
Jesus that’s a lot of death you’re guessing

Having fun, clearly. 😉
@ Daniel:
Glad I’m not the only one who thought the whole Richard – Hitomi dynamic was creepy as hell. While her age is never mentioned in the comics, she seems to be 16-20 and Richard seems in his forties.
@ Terion:
@ Breja:
Richard is definitely mid-40s, Hitomi’s general behaviour and level of maturity indicates mid-20s. She’s in that middle-ground of maturity where she still has areas she’s deeply immature in but working on *cough Yukiya cough* but is otherwise mature enough to be confident in who and what she is, to do a customer service job competently, to identify people in need of reassurance, etc. etc.
She’d have to be an absurdly well-balanced teenager to be able to fluently speak English and Japanese, maintain a steady job, and be as confident and empathic as she has demonstrated being.
If you’ve watched Friends, she’s about on par with Rachel or Joey; a step below Monica, Ross, Chandler, or Phoebe. Only starting to interact with life proper rather than the misadventures of teenagerdom/young adulthood.
I still find it mildly creepy (at least it’s not trophy wife levels of creepy,) but she’s clearly not as young as y’all are making her out to be.
That creeper with the hourglass has to be Novil, planning to sink our ship!
@ Ivresse:
1) I’m not outraged. I just said what it looks like. There was no “rage”. All I meant was that it’s a bit, let’s say, unfortunate drawing. I’m not even suggesting she actually is 12. But there’s clearly quite an age difference, and art like this only makes it more explicit rather than mitigaiting the issue.
2) The only people outraged here are people like you who start insulting others, and in pretty disgusting ways. Yes, I don’t like the story arc you do and I don’t “ship” the couple you do – clearly that makes me a closet pedo.
Seriously, some peopel here… sheesh.
I’m really hoping that Novil doesn’t go for cheap shock by having Hitomi suddenly die, but that would be a pretty big shift from the general tone of this strip. Of course, Cerebus Syndrome is always a possibility.
@Novil:
I’m getting a bad feeling.
I am not a gamer. I like happy endings and good feels. I like comics because they’re fun and not real. Don’t make a comic about a talking raccoon get too real.
I have a feeling the Richard/Hitomi (Richomi? Hithard?) shippers (myself among them) are about to get a rude awakening…..
As far as Richard’s age, he could easily be in his early to mid-thirties. If Sandra is in her early or mid-teens and Richard had her young (say 19 or 20, a perfectly reasonable guess) he would be 32-36 years old.
This is the part where I love how everything has developed, yet at the same time dread where it’s going. If this was a novel, I’d be in “can’t put this down page-turning mode.”
Breja wrote:
Yeah, you go tell yourself that.
Also for the record I’m not a shipper. I just find people like you that seem to want to
unnecessarily complain about someone’s work for stupid reasons, as if you’re the person he needs to satisfy, frankly pathetic.
Not any type of game expert but I think the clue here might be letting us know that the strip hasn’t been what is actually happening. Richard hit his head is still unconscious, and we’ve following his dream/hallucination – he wakes up in hospital – possibly even back in the States as he was transported while in a comma.
Hitomi may or may not be real.
And Sandra is still waiting to marry Cloud before sharing a bed…
@ Greedo:
My mother had me at 15. My dad was 22. By the time i was 14-15, my dad was 36. If Rich & his late were both 19 at Sandy’s birth, he’s only 33-34 at best

When did I say I was giving up? I’m literally playing it right now (yes, please new president of Shinra, gloat about how you’re going to rule with fear around the guy with a massive sword and the other guy with a GUN FOR AN ARM. At least here it makes more sense because I assume the gun has been disarmed, unlike his moronic father who arrived at the ongoing terrorist attack just to gloat….. Do the villains get smarter? Because with the game tossing around the term retarded as much as it does, an element I’m willing to ignore because it was the 90s, they’re the ones it should be directed to.) I was asking if these awful characters and the terrible gameplay that was NOT good at the time (I was playing games back then. I played better) got any better. Sounds like I kicked your waifus. Good, it’s a garbage game so far for garbage people. The story is not bad so far, and I’m enjoying it (seem to have the same reading comprehension as Cloud has character) but Tifa, Aeris, and Red are the only likable people, and the gameplay itself (aside from the battles, which are good) are just straight out BAD. We had better map design back in the day. We had better puzzles back in the day. Repairing that city model was boring and tedious. If this was good to people, then you people needed to play better games, because apparently you played garbage.

Maybe. Or, maybe in the Wooniverse, the viral outbreak either never happened or was successfully contained before it cold go full pandemic. After all, we’re talking about a world that started with a talking raccoon, and only got weirder from there. Plus, the strip seems to operate on something of a sliding time scale; only a year or two has passed in-story while the strip has been running for eleven and a half years, but things usually seem to be happening now, whenever “now” is. I’m not sure there’s any completely logical way to reconcile all this, so I don’t try too hard.
