Starting with strip 399, Sandra and Woo will be published in black and white again.
- Cloud: That was the most embarrassing moment of my life.
- Cloud: But it’s over. I’ve already made it through the worst.
- Larisa: Hey, Cloud, look!
- Sign: At Sandra’s butt!
- Cloud: … Says the damned to himself after the first minute of eternal torment.
- Ye Thuza: Aw, is my little boy getting mocked by his girlfriend for getting a boner in public?!

Must be cultural differences on my end… I would never have thought to see this happening, especially regarding what Sandra is, err, doing.
Or, if I dare to say more likely, the author is sacrificing characters for the sake of comedy.

Dizzy, man, relax. This has nothing to do with fairness; Nature doesn’t really give a rat’s ass about whether this is fair or not. It happens, regularly, every day, every hour, all over the world. Young boys get embarrassed and the girls tease them to a greater or lesser extent depending on the culture. That’s life and there is nothing you can do about it. Give it a year or two and when the hormones re-settle, it won’t be so much of a problem anymore.
If it makes you feel any better, pretty soon both Sandra and Larissa are going to experience their own entry into the sexual maturity phase of life, and theirs is going to involve regularly scheduled intense pain for the next 40 to 50 years.

That’s why mum still trots out my baby pix – taken forty years ago – and why she always introduced me to her co-workers as “her little baby boy” (I’m a foot taller than she is and 130# heavier…)
Get used to it, kid. Embarrassment can become MUCH more acute after the onset of puberty…

Hehehe … Ye Thuza has the right attitude about his involuntary erection by goofing on her son about it instead of screaming about how evil he is and how the girls are little tramps for showing their bodies in public. They’ll laugh about this later.

It sounds like you think all the girls in the world is out to get you. Relax, it’s the same with the boys too. If the boys know something about your weak moments they will tease you to no end as well. If you keep the grudge for years it won’t be healthy for your body, self esteem and mental.
Really, if you can tease people, why can’t they tease you back?

I’m surprised Larisa is advocating for Cloud to get boners from looking at Sandra’s butt. I would have thought she’d react differently. Just goes to show you can never predict Larisa.

For the record, Aqua, I’m not in junior high school, im 24 and in college, and i keep seeing stuff like this in stories (and in comics, now, apparently) and the inability of the guy to do anything about the situation is infuriating.

Yes,Ack, but that’s just the thing – I’m not teasing at all. This is completely one-sided. I’m actually quite respectful of girls most of the time, it’s when they sexually manipulate or tease boys that my sympathy does a 180.
Calling it now: this is a nightmare.

As for reverting to B/W, I wonder if it will be a permanent thing or just temporary to allow Lisa to take a holiday / deal with real life stuff…

I’m afraid my ‘impressed’ goes right into ‘disbelief’ and ‘concern’. It’s cute and fun and all in a comic, but in real life it would be highly unrealistic for a girl that age to be that calm about sexuality unless she’s been exposed to it in high doses previously. Her behavior would actually be a red flag to look for other possible signs of sexual abuse.
Girls can be so cruel.

Probably a cultural difference. Remembering when I was 12 (13 years ago) this would be NOTHING. And I would actualy be mostly immune to teasing… not that body would not act on it´s own… simply noone around would care.
(We were 10 boys and 20 girls in class… so imagine how summer school trips went…) And well we had our first biology classes there already.
As I have heard once “sin is subject of geography” what is normal somewhere is tabooed elsewhere…
Now let´s look on the subjects of story…
Cloud- son of Burmese ex-resistance fighter (who most likely started killing in age younger than her son is now!) And Cloud is encouraged to be a dashing hero.
Sandra is without mom and she has to learn things on her own… and you know… her pet racoon told her how he “played” with his mate. (Sandra replied “tell me less”) And you know her father probaly explained her things already if she did not find herself using google.
And Larisa is conviniently asked after a trip to nature if she didn´t set anything ablaze, and if she is still a virgin (which somehow implies that she knows what it means)
It is a way how to rise kids… it simply different than others.
And really Cloud needs rescuing… and only one who may be in possition to be actualy helpful is Larisa´s boyfriend.

Ye Thuza is getting creepier every time she appears in the strip. I’m really starting to wonder why she’s so intently keeping track of Cloud’s romantic and sexual development.

Ah…no. At all. In fact, I would be hard pressed to think of a greater over-reaction to simple teasing. That kind of pseudo-psychology never does any good, but it can result in great and irrepairable harm.
There is nothing at all even slightly unrealistic about a couple of tweens flirting openly and even making sexual innuendoes. Heck, in West Palm Beach, every weekend you would have the girl scouts, or the high school cheerleading team, or whichever group holding a fundraising carwash, and they have absolutely no qualms about teasing the clients and passer-bys. It is fun for them, a slightly older version of “Playing Pretend”. While the mothers may have their own opinions on the matter, the simple fact is that the girls themselves are as well-adjusted as they are supposed to be at that age.
Now, if a 10-year old initiates sexual acts, or if an older child initiates sexual acts, then there is precedent that this sort of behavior has been shown to have a direct correlation to child abuse. At that point, you can reasonably think of it as a Red Flag of possible sexual abuse, particularly if it is directed at an authority figure. If it is towards a peer, don’t be so quick to jump to any conclusions; some kids are just disturbingly precocious.
But there is a world of difference between initiating sex in private, and openly teasing and flirting in public, particularly in a relaxed situation like playing at the beach, which by its nature tends to celebrate the inherent sensuality of the human body. To take the innocent actions of a couple of kids playing with other kids and pretend the most probable way this would occur is due to sexual abuse, that is misleading to the point of outright deception. To be perfectly frank, that sort of casual accusation is more likely to destroy the lives of these three children and their families than anything else, regardless of whether it is correct or not.

Girls teasing a boy after discovering they’ve turned him on? ^^; Par for the course. Girls tormenting a boy with the bodypart that has a mind of its own? Fairly normal. A mom joining in with the torment? Eh heh heh… That’s not so common. ^^;
Take heart, Cloud. Sooner or later, that particular torment ends. Mind you, you’ll be very old when it does, but still: it will end eventually. And then you will miss it.

You know, it’s a good thing this is such a classy comic and Cloud is such a well-raised young man. o_o Some boys might have responded to such hassling by just pulling down their trunks; most girls would shriek and run if that happened.
