Hey, just want to point out that the transcript labels Richard as the “best… girl?” line, when it appears to be sandra saying it.

In comic 899, Ye Thuza told Sandra “Never have unprotected sex!” I’m sure she meant “…until you are married, you and your spouse want children, and you have decided that you are ready for children.” But that’s not so pithy.
In comic 900, Ye Thuza told a story (possibly made up, but I assume nothing) about spending a night with a boy when she was 15. The moral of the story was definitely not “never spend the night with a boy.” (By the way, I don’t think there’s any state in the USA that would allow Sandra to carry a concealed pistol before she’s 18, and I doubt Ye Thuza means Sandra should wait until she can carry a Desert Eagle.)
In comic 605, Ye Thuza told Cloud “If you get Sandra pregnant before she’s finished high school, I’ll separate your head from your body.” Notice that this is not the same thing as threatening Cloud if he has sex with Sandra; I’d take it as strong discouragement of unprotected sex, but “silence implies consent” on the subject of other sexy things that might happen between Sandra and Cloud.
Ye Thuza overall seems quite laid back and accepting of dating and possible sexy things. She is a stern taskmaster when it comes to forcing Cloud to train (see comic 178), but in most other things she’s downright relaxed. And Cloud seems to be able to tell her things… in comic 295, he told her when he had his first kiss with Sandra (and she complimented him and offered to buy him an ice cream sundae to celebrate). When I had my first kiss I did not discuss it with either of my parents.
In short, we have no reason to think Ye Thuza would be upset at all if Sandra and Cloud started having (protected) sex, and several reasons to think she would be cheering them on.
TL;DR She’s greenlighting sexy times that do not result in pregnancy or venereal disease.

I’m feeling a contradiction. If number 2 is Megumin, shouldn’t number 1 be Mayuri? Kurisu is too much of a contrast. Enough that you might as well throw Louise in between.
Also, as mentioned, wouldn’t Ye Thuza’s taste be more in the direction of Tifa? Barring that, Yuki Yuna, or at least Yang, should have been in her list.

Ye Thuza believes in individual autonomy and the right for her children to make their own well-informed decisions. She’s not ‘green-lighting’ anything, she’s just expecting them to be responsible for their own actions. That’s probably in part because she had to grow up fast herself. She doesn’t want her children to grow up as she did; but she does want them to have their independence.

This makes Ye Thuza’s earlier praise of how good girlfriend Sandra is less flattering. What makes a great anime girl does not necessarily make a great girlfriend. This increases the chance she doesn’t know what constitutes a good girlfriend. Roughly, what she’s saying translated to following:
“I couldn’t imagine a better girlfriend for Cloud, but there’s a fair chance I don’t know what makes a good girlfriend.”

Yeah, ‘Best Girl’ trope and real world relationship qualities don’t really intertwine. But I’m sure she’s being fasicious here. Mostly, she’s just saying Sandra’s a better match for Cloud than the next closest competition, Larisa.
