I think it’s because they have to be captured by eldor in the sphere chamber. If they weren’t barely alive and about to die, they wouldn’t take the oath, and would all get killed instead.
It’s an intentional disarming in order to be taken less seriously by Eldor. If Eldor saw them as being even more than a marginal threat, he’d simply slaughter them all and be done with it, but as we have been seeing here, he’s been arrogant, and thinks he can simply sweep them aside whenever he wants, and Lilith doesn’t want to give him any indication of it being otherwise. They can’t brute force a problem like Eldor, but they can take advantage of the few weaknesses he’s shown, and win by deceit what isn’t possible through overwhelming force.
