- Julius: Have you ever eaten meat?
- Scarlet: No. You?
- Julius: No.
- Scarlet: I read that there are so few animals left that even most wolf tribes don’t bother to hunt them anymore.
- Tibor: Kids, do you have to talk about such depressing stuff? Let’s rather check out the cool swords over there!
- Scarlet: All right.
- Scarlet: Wow, it’s glowing green!
- Scarlet: I’d look so pretty in a dress like that!
- Julius: You look super pretty even now!

Julius is crushing pretty bad…
Graybeard
And justifiably so.

You should read the fan-fic he’s got running in his head! 8-0

There are no hamburgers on the entire world! No sausages for anyone. Lavarel is in worse trouble the more background details we get.
What’s the range of “There are tales that the sword would shine if it gets near an orc/goblin” on that sword? Is it reacting to Scarlet, or to Tibor the fox man? Or is it mood ring-ing to Julius’s crush on Scarlet?

I’m sure there are hamburgers, just without the meat. What they are missing are steaks, bacon, … wait a sec. They are also missing iron. Iron is extremely hard to get from vegetarian diet. Maybe we should care less about how nothing taste well and more on the fact that multiple necessary nutrients block each other, so diverse diet is only way to get everything. It’s why the multivitamins containing everything fails – the body can’t get everything from them simply BECAUSE they contain everything.
… that is, unless they are genetically modified.
Also, obviously, the sword is part of pair, supposed to glow when they get together. The other one is in basement or part of another exhibit.
Crystalgate
The settings page indicates that Bloomrabi and Firebeats contain all the nutrients humans need, so one of them has to contain Iron. The page also states that if the Firebeats is lost, then all animal life will perish, but apparently not humans, so the Bloomrabi has to alone contain all needed nutrients. That said, if the necessary nutrients block each other, then there is a problem.

It appears green in the previous panel, so likely it’s just simply glowing.
MegaJar
Wow, the sword’s glowing! And if you listen really hard, you can almost hear it speaking to you: “Master, the batteries in your Wii remote are very low…”
Arthur
At least it’s not glowing blue. That would imply something…far worse.

Poster: Arthur. Topic: Swords. Checks out.

The dresses look really nice! They’re all drawn and colored very well.

No meat? That explains why the cat people died out.

Not meat is a bit weird to me.
The traditional diet of the Inuit in Canada’s arctic is mostly meat and there is less green in the north then we have seen in this comic so far.
Crystalgate
The lack of oceans means an Inuit lifestyle can not be sustained. Their food came mostly from the ocean or was food who in turn had its food from the ocean.
Jim Baerg
There was a group of Inuit (the Ihalmuit) living inland who got most of their diet from caribou. Most of my information about them comes from “People of the Deer” by Farley Mowat.
Crystalgate
Lavarel does not have enough plant life for reindeers. Most of the remaining animals, which are few compared to our world, are small.
Arthur
“King Vulpus the first wielded this sword for his entire military campaign. It never left his side. Shortly after he returned home all his fur fell out and he died of a mysterious illness. Perhaps he contracted mange while out on the fields of battle”

“Let’s make a sword entirely out of radium watches.” Some things are meant as show pieces, but there’s always someone who wants the fancy stuff for himself. I wonder where the radioactive ore deposits are and if they’ve been properly mapped. Scarlet’s hair shows that she’s lived off of some form of radioactive beets. Her father- black hair. Her mother- blond hair.
FuryoftheStars
Not necessarily. My girlfriend is a natural brunette. Her late husband was black hair. Their son was black haired, but their daughter is a firey redhead. Paler skin, too, like typical Irish, even though neither of them had paler skin. Her late husband did have Irish ancestry.

“Skips a generation” is a thing Because Reasons.
Look at Scarlet’s hair-shine and tell me that’s normal. She could be used to navigate through a cave. (Wonders how Scarlet could be used to give away their position during a daring chase of ships at sea, at night, but that might be the Tintin reader in me.)
FuryoftheStars
“Look at Scarlet’s hair-shine and tell me that’s normal.”
It’s a comic. 😉
Crystalgate
It is worth noting that Julius has blue hair, so this comic seems to go somewhere between normal hair color and anime hair color.
FuryoftheStars
Yes, good pointing out Julius’ hair. Both have that sort of “halo” affect going around their heads at about the same position. It’s just artistic licensing.
Goes, I believe, with the fact that we have fox and wolve humanoids, knowledge of a cat one, and other aspects of this setting (like the food and weapon tech) that, realistically, don’t make sense. It’s a comic… it’s not meant to be realistic.
Crystalgate
The non glowing swords are rather significant, because a common theory is that this world was colonized. Other than that, Tibor wielded a glowing knife when killing Reva to save Scarlet, though I think it is more blue glowing. There may have been a past where the magic was more magic and less magitec, but it’s hard to say yet.
