  1. Wow! Tibor is an action hero! But this attack on a fleeing fox is risky. The wolf that was on the truck could attack him from behind.

    1. WE don’t see what happened to him, but Tibor DOES. He might be escaping around the other side of the boulder … or lying on ground after being thrown from the car.

    2. The driver/fox was slowest getting out since he had to scoot across the seat, the driver’s side being blocked by a boulder. I suspect that the wolf was thrown from the vehicle and either landed running or is still lying there bleeding.

  2. The jokes about reinventing wheel notwithstanding, this is VERY obsolete wheel design … yet it’s possible it’s the most advanced design THEY know about.

  3. So they got 3 of the 6 and will find out that they just need money to buy food. Where else this leads is looking like an interesting ride.

    1. My humble suspicion is that the engine is scavenged technology, but they are probably able to produce the car chassis with their current limited technology. Would explain the blend of old timer parts with an mysterious artifact engine.

Ther engine must be very rare and valauble by itself, the car is most likely stolen from a very wealthy individual … or perhaps a ressourceful organisation is backing these goons to steal the food…

  4. BlackDragonSlayer

I’m guessing this isn’t just a ragtag group of thieves. Perhaps they have a sponsor or leader with deeper connections.

  5. Anyone want to make bets on “How much money was destroyed this page?”

It’s a bit difficult, considering the fact that we haven’t strictly gotten a currency to “x common good equivalent”.
And naturally, math will depend on “how much is the energy of the gun actually worth”

    1. It’s probably just cheap metalwork. The hard part is getting the right type of fuel to burn to heat and shape the metal. The glowing engine is sure to have a few glitches, but it can’t be so fragile that it could go belly up if somebody slaps it’s hood. It wouldn’t be road-worthy if it died from ramming a bolder on such a short runway. That’s what bumpers are for. There’s a lot of small parts of a car that only mechanics take the time to learn about- all sorts of shock absorbers, rotation protectors, left and right specific stabilizers, etc. A car can run without almost all of them, just rougher.
Now, if you want to talk money destroyed, at least the beets haven’t exploded yet!

      1. It looks to me like the actual engine got busted and that one is probably an ancient engine that cannot be reproduced. It may be possible to repair it though.

  6. Shots fired. And Tibor actually hits something! And tackles the driver. I bet he’d thought he’d have trouble looking busy on the job. Will we get to see Scarlet playing in the snow? By which I mean being the spirit of winter death because she’s the only one who knows the trail that they escapees are escaping on.
Also, they gain one slightly damaged mechanical carriage. A few repairs and it should help move rock pretty well.

  7. Mechanical Carraige shows they’ve got some financial backing. My bet is organized crime looking to steal and resell food at a markup rather than some Robin Hood situation.

    1. Or they stole the food for their own eating benefit with a deal to turn some over to whoever provided the truck.

  8. The food’s been recovered. Trying to apprehend the thieves seems a little ambitious (and unnecessarily dangerous) for a private security guard.

  9. Remember that Tibor was almost executed for his robbery stunt. These thieves did not rob someone at gunpoint, but some sort of martial law may be in effect and putting the mining operation in peril by stealing food for the miners may not go well. The first two thieves Tibor caught also tried to sneak up on him while holding some cloth (were they trying to strangle him?) so the thieves may have a lot to worry about now. The truck engine may also be busted and worth a fortune since it’s unlikely it’s something that can be mass produced.

    1. My guess for the scarf would be chloroform, ether, or some similar knockout drug. Not necessarily safe, but safer than most other ways to incapacitate him.

  10. Now Scarlet gets her hands on an ancient device rather more powerful than a lamp or handgun. Who knows what she could do with it.

    1. She’ll build an air conditioner.

  11. Novil, great page! A subtle language note, which you may not feel like changing, but you’re often interested in this sort of thing. “Buzz off” isn’t usually used about oneself, it’s usually used to tell someone else to go away. For example, if someone is annoying you, you tell them “buzz off”. Think of it like telling an annoying insect to fly (buzz) away. You wouldn’t say “I’m going to buzz off” or “let’s buzz off” because that implies you’re the annoyong one. In this instance, if you want vernacular slang, I’d use something like “Let’s scram” or “Let’s get out of here”

    1. Thanks. Exchanged.
