Time to find out whether or not Grondar’s offer was reasonable. Either way is entirely possible. Scarlet’s either about to get a cold fish of reality in the face, or about to win her biggest gamble yet.
I think they (the government) played honestly with her, her behaviour is, at least, frankly dishonest. They can think she is a traumatized orphan girl etc. but the fact is they were the amauteurish players here, so things will be absolutely different from now on. Of course I am sure she did the win-lose graph and calculated the risks (seems she thinks gov is not very smart), but what I cannot understand is why is she in such a hurry.
I spent much of my career (I’m retired now) working on assorted arms-control stuff, and while this plan was obviously well before my time, the whole arms-control field has been shaped by the issues that came up back then. I think its relevance to what Kirelia might find objectionable is clear.
Nice job, Scarlet. The government may not have agreed to Grondar’s demands, but they still seemed to be on your side. They supported you, and they believed your story. They could have been a very useful ally. And you had to go and throw them under the bus. Methinks the Fire Girl may have just burned some very important bridges.
Well, they said Grondar’s request was unacceptable. So she has to do something. There may have been other options, some of them better. But it’s not an obviously terrible one. Being a genius doesn’t magically empower you to discover and choose the best option in social situations all the time. And she has repeatedly said that arrogance is her greatest flaw, so this is very much in line with her personality.
Looks like Scarlet isn’t buying the “And there was some sort of unreasonable demand that I won’t bother telling you, so go away now, shoo shoo.” lies. People in authority always blame the discoverer when they get caught doing things they shouldn’t. “How dare you force me to do my own job!”
I didn’t know we’d get a page this week. Hug the baby, Elli.

Wow, she is really playing dangerous game here.

I don’t think Grondar is the only kingdom prone to say “off with their heads” when someone irks them…

>> but what I cannot understand is why is she in such a hurry.
Speeches are always on Marketday, so it’s not like everything happens at once.
But you need to use the momentum once you have it.

Brat! 😂

See, Kamala Harris, that’s what a charismatic brat looks like! 😀

And how is when Scarlet finds out that the Grondon price for Scarlet’s safety is …
,,, Scarlet.
Vicious Sand
The longer they keep her, the more they’ll want to trade her! Doubly so if she doesn’t want to be there.
Novil
That makes no sense. Kirelia’s government would certainly not rate that request as unacceptable.
Graybeard
If it means that Grondor gets to keep whatever world-controlling thing she finds?

This is a worthwhile read:

The government definitely made a mistake not telling her what the demand is. Who knows, maybe they would convince her it’s really unreasonable.

Now Scarlet looks really scary, even more so than when she’s holding a gun or when her face shows intense anger! 😮

I still can’t help but feel she’s biting off more than she can chew.

Well, Scarlet said herself that her flaw is arrogance. (SFoS 009)
