  1. “We’re growing plates.” It must be rare to find an intact one. Since it’s No-resource Distant Future setting, it must be unusual to find an intact one in whatever topsoil over a landfill they’re growing food on top of. I assume a plow was involved. (There must be an adorable picture of a mud and grass covered Scarlett trying to pull a plow- a total of one foot.) “Plate is to be used for decorative purposes only. Do not eat food from.”
Huh. Beets. I hope genetic engineering has made them edible by then.

    1. It’s even more unusual if you realize that they are currently harvesting. They overlooked the plate when seeding and now it’s there.

    2. PS: Regarding beets: It’s possible those beets are food for food … I mean, for farm animals. Or they are extracting sugar from it – sugarcane is tropical plant, they can’t get sugar from that.

      1. It is explained in the “setting” tab that firebeets and bloomrabi are the two main crops that are eaten by humanoids. Therefore no meat, no eggs, … maybe rich people can afford a bit of meat and of extra plants, or spices for special occasions?
Maybe these beets are really better? Or maybe people know how to cook them in a large variety of recipes? It is said that eating is not particularly “fun”, but humans can be really creative with food (look at all the stuff we can do with potatoes…).

Maybe a long time ago, with warmer times, there were other plants available?

You do know that, even today, lots of people actually enjoy eating beets, right?

        2. Meat and eggs are not crops, so I don’t think this necessarily means no eggs, milk and meat. They DO have some farm animals and unless they somehow get toxic it would be waste if they didn’t eventually eaten them. Of course, meat would be just small part of diet.

Also, yes, the settings suggests that there used to be more plants but these two are all which was left. And “variety of recipes” won’t help if you don’t have spice.

Most likely the eating is really no fun.

  2. A promising web comic and a free lesson in the German language! I love it, keep it up!

  3. The artwork is beautiful, especially that strange plate/device thing. I wonder what it could be?

  4. Minor typo in the English version: “You only want TO catch up.” Is there a way to report these so that we don’t have to do it here?

    1. Thank you for the notice. I don’t know how I overlooked this after looking at this page so many times.

The comment section is the proper place to report errors in the comic pages. But readers could also send an email to me at novil@gmx.de

  5. Oh, good! Somehow the discussion of the two pages before the cover led me to think that we were all done with young Scarlet and the next page she’d be the age on the cover. I’m glad I was wrong. 🙂

    1. We’ll see a lot more of Scarlet’s childhood before reaching the point of the cover in her late teens.

      1. Cool. Little Scarlet is super super cute. <3

Why is there still german in the transcripted dialog? Bug?

        1. Fixed. Thanks for the notice.
