The Machine of Eternal Summer 015

  • Tibor:
  • Tibor: My father was a drunkard, my mother was a whore, and I… I am a gambler and a robber.
  • Tibor: The Frey family is a disgrace to Lavarel. It’s high time to close the last chapter.

  1. aw, Tibor

  2. BlackDragonSlayer

    Well that got dark quickly.

    1. His whole story so far’s been dark, so this isn’t a surprising progression. Robbing Scarlet’s father, getting threatened by the loan wolf when he used the stolen money to pay off his loan, then getting dumped by the girl he loves. When your life is already miserable, it doesn’t take a lot to send you down much darker paths.

  3. Admitting his life to himself looks like it hits hard. Suicide note? Nah, too easy. He’s probably too cheap to buy the rope. I wonder what sort of bus/carriage service they have in Lavarel? Time to be a disgrace to some other city!

  4. Somewhat is seems like Tibor is going to go back and turn himself up to the people he robbed. Like let them do to him whatever they want.

  5. The robber part could have been desperation, but the gambler part makes it pretty clear how he got into his bad situation. Had he stopped gambling when he decided to propose to Viola? Him saying “I ‘am’ a gambler” makes me think otherwise, although it’s not clear since he’s not in his right mind now. What we have is a man who robber a family, was happy shortly after robbing said family, decided to propose despite lacking the means of supporting even himself and recently having been involved in a serious crime and presumable he was still a gambler. It seems to me like the reason he thought the proposal could even work is because he lived in delusion. He has been hit by reality, but I don’t feel like he’s really in it still. He says his family is a disgrace, but in reality, it’s about what he is. What Viola said suggests that had he not gambled and instead gotten a honest job, he could have had Viola and a nice family. Awful parents gives you a disadvantage though, but they don’t define him.

    1. I think gambler part can ALSO be desperation. I mean, I think he started gambling because he was convinced he can win enough money to support a family. Obviously that’s extremely naive, but there are plenty of people like that, so …

And with parents like that, it’s likely he didn’t get any education, limiting how much honest work can he get. Sure, it would still be better strategy that gambling or robbery, but it’s likely he couldn’t get job paying well enough to support girl like Viola.

      1. The farming that the Carolus did has a very low tech look to it. If we just go back 100 years in time, you would not need education just to be able to work. Other aspects of this world looks more modern though. Tibor’s chances depends on how much education you need in this world.

I do not know what I should make out of “girl like Viola”. She implied that she required her husband to be able to support a family, which is not that wild.

  6. Oi, Tibor, don’t whoreshame. it’s a perfectly respectable occupation

    1. He was accepting of Viola for a reason. But it’s not a financially upward career.

    2. And a way he could make some money

  7. Yeah… Can’t blame him… No money, no love, no future, no respect, no value… Seriously, I would bê about to do the same in his place.

  8. I guess I need to write a word of appreciation to both the Author and the Artist.
I’ve been following Sandra and Woo for years. Same for Gaia. They were awesome and gave me.. I don’t know what, but something to overcome some darkest moments.

Now this comic feels like a new fresh breath of frostly winter air: it gives the feeling of being alive, and sence of new beginning.

Keep up the work of being breathtakingly cool, you both!
